16th region I think as of now it is a 3 team race going into the season. Those three teams are East, Fairview, and Rose Hill not in any certain order with Russell, Lewis, and Ashland as dark horses.

 

I cant argue with your top three, but I believe the region may have several dark horses.

You do realize what Holmes returns and that Beechwood loses arguably their best senior class ever, right? Covcath will also be improved with Thelen, Maschinot, and Connelly all getting valuable minutes at the end of last season.

IMO: Beechwood will not make it out of the district next year. CovCath will probably be much improved from this year and Holmes will have a cake walk thru the districts like they did this year. That leaves no regional openings for HC or Beechwood.

Shelby is the favorite and the only real contender to them next season will be Anderson....and they are probably a pretty distant second at this point.

You are right, I did say this about Beechwood last season and I was definitely wrong. But come on, Beechwood loses a ton of talent thru graduation and it's not like they just reload like some other traditional basketball schools do. Let's face it, CovCath and Holmes are normally the main stays that come out of the 35th district with HC and Beechwood getting out every once in a great while.

Possibly. They certainly have a chance...but Hazard or PCC typically play their best in the postseason and any team that wants to break through likely will have to beat them both to get there.

 

I'm not discounting KCC chances. I just wouldn't pick them.

 

Of course, its a little early to say. Hazard and PCC aren't above having down years and these teams rosters may end up looking different than we project.

 

 

 

The word around the mountains here is that Whitaker from Hazard is transfering to a private school. PCC is returning 4 of thier top 6 players and KCC is also returning most of their players but it will most likely come down to these 3 teams again.:thumb:

What private school? I have heard rumors of him transferring.

If Whitaker transfers, that would be three schools in four years. (Bell, Hazard, New School) Seems like a great kid, just wondering what he may be searching for in leaving Hazard. Maybe he thinks he can better himself for the college ranks by leaving. I hope it is not a fallout with Coach Holland, he is one of the better coaches in the mountains. If he stays at Hazard I believe they will make a return trip to Rupp. If he leaves, best of luck to him!
