I agree. Eastern is a mirror image of Holmes, but I think their lack of a big man could hurt them if they meet Holmes, Shelby Valley, or Elliott County in the finals.

 

A team will have to have solid guard play and a good big man to win the sweet 16. Very rarely does a team with all guards win the state title. You have to have size and some depth.

 

Trinity & J-town both had big men and it did not bother Eastern.

I like this one except I would move Shelby Valley above Mason.

Trinity & J-town both had big men and it did not bother Eastern.

 

I wouldn't say Reeves or Trinity's big man are on the same level as Pittman though. He had his way against Ballard and from what I've heard, Eastern is very comparable to Ballard.

I didn't intend any disrespect to Holmes, but its my opinion that they haven't been playing great lately. Actually, a better way to say that would be that I think the other 4 teams just happen to be playing better at this point.

I watched Holmes play for the first team last night and it seems they are very quick and I think if they got in a run and gun type game vs Elliott Co that their strength and quickenss would wear down Elliott Co.

I haven't watched Holmes in person, but I did catch them on t.v. a few times. It's my opinion that if they want to beat Elliott County, they will need to implement the same type of gameplan they've been using lately. If they get into a run and gun matchup with Elliott county, they'll have a hard time defeating the Lions. Again, that's just my opinion.

Holmes avg. 40 a game, in the region they need to score more to win state title. Elliott has had that by half time.

Holmes at #5 behind Elliott Co, Shelby Valley, Eastern, and Lexcath? Come on Wireman...we all know Holmes and Eastern are the two best teams and favorites coming in to the tournament to unbiased neutral fans. To have either Lexcath or Shelby Valley as bigger favorites than either of those two is funny IMO. I can guarantee you teams would rather play Lexcath or Shelby Valley rather than Holmes and Eastern.

Maybe but I think Holmes has more athletic ability than Elliott Co. Holmes plays very good D.

I personally haven't witnessed a team in the state that could run and gun with Elliott County. Elliott County's entire offensive and defensive midsets are centered around their ability to run and wear teams down. A lot of teams come into games with the thought that they can run with Elliott and win but they can't as evidenced by the Ballard game. Elliott County's conditioning is IMHO by the far the best in the state. We have a motto in Elliott County: "Run to live! Live to run!"
