And of the teams you mentioned, Cedar Hill is the only team that has the size and athleticism to play with Holmes. I've seen where several posters on here from South Carolina, who have lived there all their lives and grew up witnessing it, have said SC basketball was very weak and baseball and football were their two stengths.

 

I also would wouldn't say Ballard is more athletic than Holmes either...that was evident when they tried to run against Holmes and were held to just 41 points. BTW, Pittman sat out the WHOLE 1st half of that game as he picked up two fouls within the first 2 minutes.

 

I think when you see Holmes next Thurs you'll realize where a lot of us are coming from.

Holmes beat Ballard by 3 on a NEUTRAL COURT and without their leading scorer playing the whole first half.

 

EC beat Ballard at home by 14 while also giving up 34 more points to them than Holmes did without their leading scorer and big man playing a lot...big difference there.

 

And yes I have watched EC in person. Saw them multiple times over the summer, in the state tournament against MC last year, and in the 5/3rd at Lexcath last year against Covcath. I've also watched them several times on the internet when their games were broadcast this year.

2. Elliott County (30-2) - They average almost 86 ppg and they're winning by 26+ on average. 2-1 vs. the field. What scares me? On neutral courts they lost to Shelby Valley (52-55) and squeaked by Anderson Co. (76-72).

 

3. Holmes (32-2) - Last year's state runner-up, they allow 46 ppg and are winning by almost 14. They've avenged both of their losses. 1-0 vs. the field

 

4. Eastern (30-2) - Average 70 ppg, win by 16 per game. 1-0 vs. the field

 

5. Lexington Catholic (25-7) - Average 71 ppg, win by 9 per game. 1-2 vs. the field (all games on the road).

Elliott also steals out of the passing lanes and back tips a lot. Neither team will get to far away from the other, if they even make it far enough to see each other. I doubt any team will hold Elliott to 30.

Something I want to point out to those people who think Holmes can't score: they've scored 70 or more on some of the better teams in the state. Bryan Station, Seneca and Scott County-a team many thought was the best in the state even after Holmes beat them.

 

Elliott, on the other hand, loves to run. They love to force turnovers and score in transition off of those turnovers. I will not go into who has played the tougher schedule, but the play of the 16th seriously inflates some of Elliott's offensive #'s IMO. Not saying Elliott is no good, I'm out to get them, doubting them, hating on them, questioning how good the boys are etc. I am just saying I don't see them scoring the big amount of points against Holmes that they do against a weak 16th region. Holmes is clearly one of the best defensive teams in the state and the length of Johnson, Johnson and Pittman will bother the Lions' perimeter shooting and I look for a game similair to the their performance against Shelby Valley should they meet in the state tournament.

I agree if they met neither would get out ahead of one another too far. I think the final would be within 5-7 either way. I just really think IF they meet, EC will have a tough time with Holmes length and size defensively. I don't think some realize who haven't seen them in person how much space they take up.

 

As far as Holmes holding Elliott Co to 30, I find that very unlikely as well. I don't think EC would score more than 65 though.

I agree they pretty much had a cake walk in the 16th,but they did play their subs more in the latter part of the season. They could have scored more in my opinion. They did play some better teams outside the 16th though. I guess it comes down to which team can force their type of play. I'd like to know both their game plans, also would not think they put up #s in the 80s.

I thought Elliott County had proven they were able to participate with athletic teams when they beath Ballard rather handily, but I'm still hearing alot of the same things. I think Elliott County should be the favorite to win the whole tournament. The only thing that makes it a little tough for them is the draw. I think the team that had the best chance to beat Elliott due to matchup problems lost in the region tourney. I also don't think they'll be playing the opponents that everyone is predicting in the tournament. I expect them to play Anderson, Shelby Valley and Lexington Catholic.
