Bath County happened to have a few good players when he got the job. If he sticks around, and I do not think he will, we will see what kind of coach he is next year. With the exception of Maze there isn't much talent returnuing.

He wouldn't last ten minutes as Elliott's coach.

 

You're right, Hicks says more in one trip down the floor than Mays does in a season.

There has been plenty of seasons in which Bath County has had as much or more talent than what Hicks inherited. No one else could seem to even get close to the success Coach Hicks has had at Bath.

 

I agree he is a winner, but if he make a coaching move, I would suggest it be somewhere other than the 16th region. He has way too many friends there.

Proven he can coach by taking a Bath Co. team with a lot of talent to a region first round loss and a region semi loss? Not to mention they don't exactly play in the toughest district.

 

Like him or not, he has done things at Bath Co. that haven't been done in 30 years. And don't try to tell me this is the first time Bath Co. has had any talent. They've had some very talented teams over the past 30 years that never even made it out of the district, let alone win back to back district championships.

I talked to someone this morning that asked Coach Hicks if he was staying at Bath County or going to Fleming County. They said he did not confirm or deny anything.

 

Let's hope he stays at Bath County.

He's very impressive. He has to be in terrific cardiovascular shape to flail around like he just sat on a hill of fireants each and every trip down the floor. Dude's certainly impressive in that manner.:taz:

I echo this sentiment as well. Im not saying he isnt a good coach, but his sideline antics are far worse than the last two coaches Fleming has had. He is hilarious to watch though. :laugh:

Bath Co. had 18 straight losing seasons and had not won a district championship in 30 years. In 2 seasons Coach Hicks is 40-12, 2 district championships, and back to back 20 win seasons. People also forget that he won a district championship at Greenup in his last season there. He also had 4 straight winning seasons at Greenup. No other Coach has done that since Coach Ward. Love him or hate him he is a winner.

 

When Jim Hicks took the Head Coaching job at Owsley County, Owsley was coming off of a 20-8 season and was the 14th region All A classic champions. In his one season at the helm he took 4 returning starters from that team and proceeded to go 12-13 with a first round loss in the all a classic region and a 1st round loss in the 56th district tournament. Then bailed ship for Greenup County.

 

He left Greenup County for a Bath County Team that had talent now may be leaving there. :irked:

:lol: I remember when he played at Evarts in Harlan Co. he played alot like that as well, as for coaching I've not watched his teams play, but he has to have set some kind of record for his name being on BGP more than most any coach for various things.:ohbrother:

You may be suprised at who comes out in Bath Co. red next year, and that will depend on if Hicks stays. By the way was this thread started about him leaving or just to kick him around?

If you're going to go back 30 years, you need to remember the district and region Bath was in until about 18 years ago. They were in the 40th with Montgomery, Clark, and Estill so not winning a district wasn't anything to be embarassed about at that time. Plus, Rowan has been down the past couple of years along with Fleming, so he hit Bath at the perfect time. The guy is a pretty decent coach but it's all about perspective.

I think that if he stays at Bath this season , how they finish and the fact that he'd stay could possibly change how folks feel about him as a coach.

I'm well aware of Bath's history and who they've been in a district and region with. My point was that this isn't the first time they've had some talent, but it is the first time they've won a district, let alone back to back district championships. In '85 and '86 they had one of the most talented teams in the 10th region and got beat in the first round of the district both years by a much less talented Estill Co. team.

I don't see Coach Hicks at Fleming County any time soon. There have been a couple of games in the past where he has shown his true colors in front of the Panther fans, and I think that the FC admin. is looking for a more disciplined coach.
