I'm well aware of Bath's history and who they've been in a district and region with. My point was that this isn't the first time they've had some talent, but it is the first time they've won a district, let alone back to back district championships. In '85 and '86 they had one of the most talented teams in the 10th region and got beat in the first round of the district both years by a much less talented Estill Co. team.

If you're well aware you'd know in the 70's Bath went to the State Tournament I think twice. So they have had district, and region champions in the past. I played on the 85 and 86 Estill teams coached by Bart Rison and would definately argue Bath was not more talented. The 84-85 Estill team won the district, and the 85-86 team had Tony Muncie one of the better players in Estill history who was offered by Georgetown College among others.

Yes they did, they won the tenth region in '75 & '77.....and have not won a district tournament since. So if my math is correct, it had been over 30 years since they had won a district tournament prior to Coach Hicks.....just like I said. :sssh:

O.K. fine, discount the previous 4 years then. Anyway, my original point is that they were in a tough district and region previously, and like most small schools had lean years etc, but the past two years have had a couple strong classes. It also did not help them that they gave up their turn in the district hosting rotation to Clark County due to having a small gym until they built their new one in the 90's. Not saying Hicks can't coach, but he did come along at a very opportune time. As for the teams in 85-86, you stopped Swartz, you stopped Bath.

And my original point was that these last two years aren't the first time that Bath has had some talent. IMO, the '85 & '86 teams were more talented that the '08 & '09 teams. I'll also point out that Rowan Co. won a 16th Region with a bunch of talented Bath Co. boys not too many years ago. Who's to say they wouldn't have stayed at Bath Co. had the winning culture Coach Hicks has created these last two years existed at the time.

I would think to be more consistently competitive year in and year out. I'm not convinced he'd leave for Fleming. I think he'll leave but I would guess it would be a school outside the 16th. :walk:

Ole Coach Hicks. Is he going somewhere again? I would guess that if he leaves he'll exit the 16th region. He'll want to go somewhere where someone has left the cupboard full. Somewhere where he can manipulate the schedule to his liking. On the sideline, he reminds me of a friend of mine from days gone by, James Brown, the godfather of soul. Moves like that are timeless. I wish the coach luck, but moreso Fleming in their search.

If some of the redistricting rumors are correct and Fleming goes back to the 10th then Fleming would fit the profile of your second statement, but may be less competetive in a district with Mason Co. and a tougher 10th region.

I talked with some who wished he would coach at Hickman County. That is in the far western corner of the state. It has a nice & catchy ring to it. Hicks at Hickman.:ohbrother:
