The 8th Region tourney is much about the process of elimination, and thus far it is pretty obvious that the "suspects and pretenders" have been eliminated and have made way for the "prospects and contenders" to play tonight at 7:00 for the honor of representing the 8th in Diddle next week. Hats off to these bonafide contenders as they square off tonight, and I wish much good fortune in Bowling Green to whichever team prevails.

 

Having said that, our 8th Region needs to "buck up" its presence in the Sweet-16, and IMO, SK has the best chances for doing just that. Hope it's great game tonight!

I would say he meant that most people with no allegiance pull for the underdog, which Anderson obviously is. I don't think it was a slap at SK. As for Tolliver for Ms. Basketball? She is a nice player, but not even in the conversation.

I understand. However, I feel CT should be in the mix for KY Ms. simply for the fact that she is such a great players on both sides of the ball. If you look at her defense against the outstanding guard players she has faced the last two seasons alone, I feel there is a case there. Opposing guard play has been all but shut down. I may be wrong but will go back and check the SK games against Webb, Bradley, Sandfoss, Jackson, Kitchen, Allen, the young guards from Franklin-Simpson in last years S16 and I am sure many others not on the tip of my mind. In those match-ups CT continued her scoring and all but shut down the scoring threat of opposing teams (with the help of Wainscott this year and Connelly last year.) I know there are other considerations and would like to now what they are but this is a good start.

 

As I am only a student of the game, what keeps her from being in a conversation about KY Ms.? :idunno: Just educating myself on how the system / process works.

Anderson is playing their best ball of the year. I think tomorrow nights game is gonna be a really good basketball game. I think most ppl in the gym want to see Anderson take Simon out.

 

Everyone hates a winner! We've dealt with these sentiments all season. SK girls are the team everyone wants to beat because everyone knows their caliber of play. :ohbrother:

I certainly didn't mean anything as a slap to SK. The "neutral" fans are prolly can pull for AC because they are the underdog (and a pretty big one according to rankings and such). Plus most 8th region fans connect more with AC since they have been in the region a much longer time. Nothing against SK but they won last year and are the overwhelming favorite to do the same. The unbiased fan is prolly gonna pull for AC for these reasons.

 

 

 

Also, Im not sure how well Stowers is liked among his peers. The guy is a great basketball coach, no doubt, but I think some people feel he is a bit of a crier. He is very well respected (he did get voted COY) but Im not sure everybody likes his style.

 

 

Ive seen SK play a ton of games over the past few seasons and love the way the girls play. They are the most fundamentally sound group in the region. They play with a confidence and aggresion that is rarely seen among most girls teams. They expect to win every contest. Stowers has done an excelent job of "grooming" these kids to play his style of game, and they fit it perfectly.

I like this SK team better than last year's; there's a chemistry on the court that I never thought last year's had (and - considering that team made the Sweet 16, I hope everyone understands that I'm complimenting this year's team, not dissing last year's).

 

That said, I think Anderson plays team ball better this year than last. I thought they kind of "locked up" last year late, looking for Milam to deliver the big point or rebound.

 

So...what I'm saying is this...I think both AC and SK have stepped up their games from last year. And - since last year's final was a classic - this year's could very well be a classic, too! I hate that I'm going to miss it, but I have to have a substitute announcer doing the game tonight for me. First girls' final I've missed in well over 10 years...

 

Bottom-line: The two best teams are in the final. That's the way it should be. Kudos to both teams, their coaches, and fans. And good luck to all!
