Anderson County 52 South Oldham 28

Featured Replies

Amazing game. I've never seen anything like it in 30 years of broadcasting HS sports.

The South Oldham Lady Dragons went 0 for 28 in the first half, falling behind 25-3 to the Anderson County Lady Bearcats. South played solid defense throughout, but couldn't make even wide open looks. Nine different players shot the ball in the first half for South, but the ball just wouldn't drop.

Second half was very competitive; Anderson outscored South, 27-25, in the second half, but the margin never dipped below 19.

South got its first FG with 5:33 to play in the third period.

Tiffany Davenport was a monster for AC. The senior guard dominated the defensive glass, and her long outlet passes keyed the Bearcat fast break. Offensively, she finished with 16 points, unofficially.

South was led by freshman Emily Housley, who scored 7.

Surprisingly, AC coach Tony Kays chose to leave many of his starters in until only about two minutes remained. I was surprised, not because I thought he was trying to run the score up or anything, but because of the risk of an injury to a key player. I remember so many injuries over the years in region play that ultimately cost a team big time, such as when Ann Estes of Oldham County blew out an ACL in an 8th Region SF matchup with Shelby County in 1980.

All worked out well for AC, however, and they run their record to 20-6 with the win and earn a rematch of last year's 8th final vs. Simon Kenton.

Anderson Co. 13 12 17 10 - 52

South Oldham 3 0 14 11 - 28

Anderson - Davenport 16, Fultz 9, McKee 8, Yeaste 8, Brown 6, Robinson 3, Stoner 2

South - Housley 7, Whitfield 6, Bray 5, McGuffin 3, Dye 2, Gamsky 2, Eldridge 2, Williams 1

So much for any home court advantage.

Colonel Mike, what do you predict for the champioship game?

I think Kays was concerned with SO's pressure D till the very end.

You can't worry about injuries. Kays knows what he is doing; it's not his first rodeo.

Anderson is playing their best ball of the year. I think tomorrow nights game is gonna be a really good basketball game. I think most ppl in the gym want to see Anderson take Simon out.

I have been disappointed with the attendance, especially from the Oldham schools. SK and Anderson don't seem to have many fans that travel either. This is the REGIONAL TOURNAMENT, RIGHT? Where are the student sections?

This will be a match-up of two solid defensive teams. First one to 50 wins?

Unfortunatly girls basketball isn't a big draw for a lot of students. Sadly, when it comes to fans support, the girls teams aren't anything close to what the boys get.

Rule 13

If Anderson can deal with Simons pressure and limit turnovers, they will win.

That's a lot easier said then done, however.

The scary thing for Simon is Fultz has yet to "get off" in game in the region. I think they are gonna have a problem matching up with her. Who is gonna guard her?

I agree. Owen Co had a much bigger crowd than Oldham for their match-up and most of those people drove an hour or so to get there. It is really sad that the community doesn't support their team.

In the first game against South Oldham, where they lost, I thought AC played better than last night with the excpetion of Davenport. She was in foul trouble the first time they met and went out early - she was the difference maker IMO last night. Both Brown and Fultz did not have great games last night- Fultz missed some easy shots.

AC simply killed South on the boards and South had a far worse shooting night than they did against WV which is hard to do since that was pretty awful. South's lack of big time game experience really hurt them. At times it seemed like they were just throwing it toward the basket and not shooting it- very very ugly. They had so many first half opportunities but could not capitalize on anything.

Good luck to AC against SK tonight.

AC was also without Yeast and Mckee the first time. Those two are pretty big contributors. South didn't shoot the ball well, but give AC some credit, they played solid defense.

Why is everybody against SK? Is it because they are new in the region or just because they are good?

Huh??

Don't understand? Reason? SK is about the most "low key" team I have ever seen. If anything they are the best - nicest team on the court. (IMO) Several teams have flat out physically attacked SK this season until the officials (on some occasions) set the limits. Several times this season you could just about see the "blue smoke and exaust" from the chainsaws thrown at them by frustrated teams. (My lame shot at humor!) :idunno:

I will stand by this..."If SK wins tonight -vs- AC and has the oppertunity to return to Sweet 6...Chelsea Tolliver deseves very serious cosideration for Ms. KY Basketball." That is a fact.
