Best wishes to the Lady Neers and congrats on another win. The SK girls' BB program shows what a coach can do. It seems like SK was in the tank before Coach Stowers took over. Coach Dawn will do the same thing at NC although NC was already a good program.

Sk pulled out in the 3rd quarter and never looked back.Oldham tried fighting back but didn't get too far. Tolliver had 21 and L. Figgins had 10. Kayla Smith had a huge game for the Pioneers with 9 blocks and 11 boards.

Much closer game than the final score; SK couldn't put the Lady Colonels away until the final period.

 

Oldham fast out of the gate in this one, led 13-4 early, but SK rallied to tie at 13 at the end of the first. Lady Colonels pushed out to leads of 5 several times in the second, but SK kept coming back and finally pushed ahead with a late basket, 25-23, at the half.

 

Oldham suddenly lost their shooting eye in the second half, and the Lady Pioneers slowly stretched the lead to 14 after three, and the final score of 54-34 was the game's largest margin.

 

Great game for Tolliver; 21 points gives her the SK single season scoring record. SK officials told us she was 47 points shy of becoming the all-time career scoring leader at SK (boys or girls); if true, she needs just 26 now.

 

I thought the SK MVP, however, was Kayla Smith. Smith had just 4 points, but had 9 blocked shots. By the second half, all the blocks were taking their toll on the OC players, and she altered countless other shots.

 

Caitlyn Figgins went down with a knee injury midway through the second and did not return. She did put some weight on it as she left the court unassisted, but had a serious limp, and returned from the halftime locker room on crutches.

 

Oldham was led by sophomore Brooke Leanheart, who hit a pair of threes and scored 12 points, and junior Emily Lape, who had 10 points. Senior Audri Beaudrie - a four year starting PG who is the only senior on Oldham's roster - only scored 4, but grabbed (unofficially) 8 rebounds.

Kudos to the Lady Colonels for a spirited effort! With all but one player returning to next year's squad, the future looks bright!

 

Oldham did a very good job of rebounding with the taller Pioneers, although I think SK wound up with the edge in that dept.

SK's team d wore them out. It was only a matter of time. I would guess that Stowers got after them a bit at halftime.

Not sure. Rumor (only rumor) has it her sister Lindsey, will start in her place with Brown remaining as 6th man. Only wish the best for her and her family!!! :ylsuper:

Coach Just had his kids on the same page tonight, and they looked pretty good in doing there thing for the first half. This year's tourney success plus the fact that the Lady Colonels will be the most experienced team in the 29th district next season, they should be considered the pre-season district favorite, and they will be one of the most senior-heavy team in the the entire region.

 

More so than last year, this year's graduation will alter the balance throughout the region for 2009-10. There are LOTS of nice underclassmen scattered among many teams, so we will see.
