Tanner Perkins at Rockcastle County. He is one of the best 2-3 pitchers in the state and one of the top position players as center fielder and hitter in state also. Recently had 16 professional scouts at intra-squad scrimmage and the consensus seemed to be he would never see the field as a college player. Tanner pitches left handed and stays in 89-91 range. He is also a top quality young man !!!

I thought Tanner was going to WKU. Could have got bad information or misunderstood someone..:idunno:

And please remember this, CovCath plays one of the most competitive schedules in the Commonwealth....so there aren't many games Maile can easily add to his totals like a lot of players can who play soft schedules.....

If he had played in the 43rd dis. Those numbers would have been different. Not to take anything from him, because he is a good player. But he would have been just another good player.

Have you ever seen him play? If not, I don't think you can make that statement. I have seen him play quite a few times and he could hit anywhere.

He hits against the best D1 pitching all summer and does very well. He was offered a roster spot on the 18u Midland Redskins, one of the top Summer ball programs in the country, after his SOPHOMORE season to play in the most competitive World Series in the country. The college scouts rank him among the top few players in the state, and I'm pretty sure they know their stuff. Do you think the University of Kentucky would sign a player they just thought was another "good" player? I assure you they would not. :idunno:

That being said it is ridiculous to think that if he played in the 11 region or the 7th region for that matter that his numbers would not be lower. I do object to the use of the word "good" in his description but he would be one of several "great" players that play in those regions. Those regions produce many D1 players every year.

So you are saying those regions pitching is that much better than the 9th year in and year out? In the last few years I believe the ninth has had representatives in the state tournament (4 of the last 6 years) and has been filled with some real good teams. This year we will see, but my contention is if you can hit you can hit anywhere. He has had no drop off when he plays on top travel teams in the summer when the pitching you see is much better game to game than the spring.

Please don't think that I am saying anything negative about Luke Maile. He is a terrific player, but no way does the 9th region stack up against the 11th region from top to bottom. In that same 6 year time period you are referring to the 11th region has dominated.

I agree the 11th is the best region, 7th might be better than 9th year in and out, but Maile is the real deal. He would be POY in any region in the state IMO. Does it really matter that his batting average might be 10 or 20 points lower when he hits .470? Maybe he hits upper 80 and 90 mph pitching better than the mid 70 and low 80 stuff he sees on a regular basis in the 9th.

Really looking forward to seeing Maile play. As far as Mr. Baseball, how much do you think it will depend on what team wins state?

In no way was I saying the 9th is better than the 11th or 7th. I pointed out that the ninth has had some top teams in the last 6-10 years make it state and that it is a very solid region with talent top to bottom. Thus he has faced some pretty good pitching, that is all I was pointing out.
