BOK Center/9th Region Start times?

Featured Replies

I was not at the girl's games on Monday or Tuesday so I don't know if this happened earlier in the week. Unless I missed it, the games were scheduled for 6pm and 8pm tonight, which is a bad idea to begin with because there were 50 minutes between games (at least as they were scheduled). But and even worse idea is to start a game scheduled for 8pm at 7:45. Did this happen at the girl's games and does anyone know why this happened?

The 2nd game did start early tonight. So far a very poorly run 9th region championship. No students. Fans of each school are scattered all over the arena due to assigned seating. Concession prices are way over normal HS prices. Music left on the loudspeakers during play. They need to work on quite a few things to make this special.

Was told that the second game is to start 20 minutes after the end of the first game.

I agree with all of the other comments. Didn't have the atmosphere of past regionals. Perhaps it's because the games are not being played in the smaller high school venues and the noise level from the crowd was non-existent. I also missed the student sections (St. Henry had one) and the high school bands. My son got a sprite and paid $4.00 for it. The one thing I did like....................the seats were much more comfortable than the bleachers.

I put the amount of time on the scoreboard as I am told to and I turn it on when I'm told to.

Who was told this? The papers had 6pm and 8pm. Didn't effect me either way but I know some who it did effect. You have a better chance of keeping fans for both games if you have them immediately after one another. If my team has just finished playing and there is 50 minutes before the next game, do I stay?

If you were at the game or if you listened to the game, you knew it stated before 8pm, so I am just telling you what happened and why it happened per my information from the CovCath Internet Crew.

BTW PA announcer stated that the Holmes vs Ryle game was next up and that was after after the end of the Boone Co vs Beechwood.

Yeah, I heard the Holmes/Ryle announcement.

All I'm saying is, if you put it in the newspapers as 6pm and 8pm, don't start the second game until 8pm. Like I said, it didn't effect me but it was a bad move.

In a two game set this is not a major issue. However, I believe that if the game is scheduled and publicized as 8pm as in the official BOKC/SMG Press Release it should start at that time for the purpose of folks attending only that game and also for scheduled broadcast times.

NOW, let's talk about Saturday, when four games are scheduled.

Let's assume that they put twenty minutes on the clock following the conclusion of the previous game and the games play out as they did last night. The 10am goes on time, the 12Noon game goes at 11:45, the 2pm game now goes at 1:30 and the 4pm game tips-off at 3:15pm.

Do you see where this might be a problem??????

At least on Saturday they need to stick to the scheduled game times.

To answer my own question/statement, I have been assured by the 10th Region host group that all games will start on/or as close to the scheduled start times as possible on Saturday.

BOK had problems with games starting LATE when they hosted the Bluegrass/Buckeye Challenge back in December. The Holmes/Scott Co game was scheduled to start at 6 and didn't start until well after 7.

That was due to the very long celebrity game.

They weren't scheduled two hours apart, and the Celebrity Game factored in as SportsGuy stated.

The celebrity game starting late was what forced the Holmes' game to start late though. I believe the celeb game was scheduled for 4:30 or 5 and didn't start until close to 6 or a little after.

I think the scheduled 6 and 8 start times were to be sure and give enough time cushion for the first game. I don't think 15 minutes early is that big of a deal. If the first game starts at 6pm then I know about 7:30 the first will be finishing and the second will be about 20 to 25 minutes after so I am getting there berfore 8. Doesn't the state tournament work the same way as far as published game times but there is only 30 minutes between games?
