Any stats for the game?

I would guess that playing some tough 9th region teams vs. Grant County's schedule this year made a difference in the game tonight.

 

I will politely disagree with you on that. In fact, I think both schools were fairly evenly matched in their strengths of schedules. Grant County usually, and sometimes to Coach Kinmon's demise, has a fairly strong schedule.

Grant has wins over: Harrison County (38th District Champ), South Oldham (29th Champ), East Jessamine (46th Runner-Up), Owen County and Henry (31st Champ and Runner-Up) and Shelby County (30th Runner-up).

 

They also lost to Anderson County (30th Runner-up)...and played Holy Cross, Oldham County and Pineville, who all had winning records.

 

Simon Kenton had a win over Fairview (64th District Champ).

 

But lost to Ryle (33rd Runner-up), Boone County (33rd Champ), Layfayette (43rd Runner-up), Scott (37th Champ), Shelby (30th Runner-up) and Holmes (35th Champ).

 

You might be able to argue in single game vs. game matchups...but overall, I think the two are fairly close. Playing against Holmes in the final regular season game may have given the Pioneers an advantage in their game against Williamstown, but I don't think it was necessarily the case against Grant.

 

I think what we saw was two very evenly matched squads, which resulted in the game we had. If not for a couple point-blank misses near the end by Grant...it could have very easily gone the other way.

 

Good luck to both teams down at Henry County. Hope we can see a rematch down there!!

Was it close the whole game? Was GC ever in the lead?

It was very tight the entire game. GC took the lead midway through the second quarter after Kinmon's slam. The game was tied going into half. SK built a 7 point lead during the second half but Grant fought back to tie it up.

I disagree with your point but it is a good one. I do not reach the same conclusion. GC has more talent and ability. Simon plays consistently and has more confidence. This allows them to play beyond their potential.

Sk has beat Grant 2/3, you're right. But when I watch these teams play I still think Grant is the better team. SK only has a better record then Spencer County (6-22) and Emience (2-23). I am biase toward Grant but when both teams are playing their best ball Grant wins.

Their shooting percentage was in the 30s. I would give credit to SK's defense for contributing to that but it was Grant missing shots that they should have made.

The braves played well tonight but not their best game. Stat of the game: 17 offensive boards and only 3 put backs. I also felt that Grant did not take advantage of their size inside, especially in the 2nd quarter when # 55 for Simon had to sit with 2 fouls. They gained only 2 points during that 31/2 to 4 minute stretch. Both Davis and Kinmon had size over their opponent but Grant did not pound the post. Another observation was that if you saw the game on Wednesday against Walton, Grant was not near as patient against Simon as they were against Walton, had alot of dribble drive and less ball movement as Wednesday. I hope they learn from the lost and get ready for region. The reality is you have to win 3 games to go to Rupp so you are going to have to play each night to win. This situation plays good actually for Grant, with South winning over North they will either play South, Henry vs. Owen winner who they have beat at least once this year or play Anderson who they played right with until the last 3 minutes of the game. Best of luck to all and I will say this the atomosphere last night will prepare both teams for the up coming region games.

Yeah...the kid is. If you have ever seen him play, you would know he plays his hardest every game, goes after loose balls, and just cares about winning. So yes a warrior is the best way to put it.

I've seen him play several times. I guess different people have different descriptions for his style of play.

The Sophomore for the Braves, Justin Loomis, is an absolute warrior. I don't think I've seen any team the Braves have played where someone played harder. He is all about winning!
