Coaching Changes

Featured Replies

Are you saying this would be the best move for the program and most importantly the kids?? Someone on staff may not always be the best candidate. I guess if this is the answer than time will tell.

It seems as though if there are two qualified and interested coaches then there should be a way for them to work together to make a big impact on the program. I think a really good solution would be for Coach Smith to create a great elementary/middle school program that will feed into the HS program. Then she could also be assistant HS coach and right there when the time came for Coach Kues to retire. Or am I naive to believe that people are capable of working cooperatively together ?

242 I will disagree. I have heard directly from players and parents that they were unhappy (moreso with one of the assistant coaches) but also Coach Kues. Many of the same issues that the well respected AD at Brossart had to deal with were surfacing at Silver Grove.

Again, go stirr the pot. If this were the case than why have so many of the players and parents voiced their support. Again, I only have a child that I needed to make a decision with and this has helped in attending a county school. Everyone will have their opinions, but I do know that both had a recent discussion with administration and this was purely a move to bring in someone within the building. You may want to check your sources before casting stones. As for the same issues, yes you are correct, it was wins and respect from other coaches, officials.... that are similiar. I would think that if their was a problem than why would you start the year with 8 players and end with 10???

No longer a dog in this hunt, but respect for Coach Kues

I think sometimes people hear things and repeat things and all of a sudden that becomes who you are and in reality there might be a slight grain of truth but unfortunately you have been branded.

I have seen this happen on more than one occasion with coaches (actually have seen it happen twice at Brossart) and knowing these guys personally I can attest that these guys have been unfairly labeled. However.......in the coaching circles the more something is repeated the more it becomes fact (even though it is untrue or barely true!!!).......

Here is your statement from April, so I guess you have found new respect for one person and had a change of mind on the other:rolleyes:

The AD was the same person then as now??

Yes the AD is the same.....I have respect for him although disagree with his choice of not keeping Coach Kues. And I do not agree with the parents complaints about Coach Kues either.............but they are as I stated some of the same complaints.

I will say that Coach Kues really hurt himself when he brought on board his new assistant coach this year.

All coaches have different styles, it doesn't make one better than the other. Coach K's assistant just happens to be very vocal and demanding. Maybe he was too loud for the small gym and crowds. He was also used to coaching boys at a fairly high level.

Again, as stated in an early post, Coach Kues was not asked back because of someone in the building wanting the job. I have not had a chance to speak with either coach personally, but I do know that the Superintendent was very happy with BOTH coaches and the results that they got. If the others in administration are happy with the new coach and the girls on the team are happy with what is going on than all of this seems to be over-kill.

To bring my part to an end, I wish all good luck and it helped me make an easy decision on my childs next stop.

Bev Smith was indeed succesful. Her departure was never related to her aiblity to coach players.

Hate to hear Coach Kues will not be back, regardless of the reason. This man can flat-out coach the game of basketball!

I would love to know what these so called issues are w/Coach Kues! I have nothing but the utmost respect for this man!

Unfortunately I am hearing the administration (and Board) are the problem with everything at that school. "Running it into the ground" was a quote from one of the employees there.

Well then why was she let go? And why would Silver Grove want to take on that baggage? From what I have been told, it is common knowledge why she was let go, but this in not the format to reveal that information. Hopefully if they hire her, she will be able continue where Coach Kues left off. The girls in the program deserve that much after coming from nowhere to develop into a very respectable team.

She will not be able to continue where Coach Kues left off b/c she simply is just not as good a coach as he is.
