Really good ballgame that East was able to pull out in the final seconds. East was on the verge of blowing Mercer out in the first half, but couldn't finish the Titans. Mercer then roared back in the second half to take a lead of five, but couldn't finish the job either.

 

Mercer had a chance to tie with free throws a 2.5 remaining. The young man missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and East got the rebound. The Jaguars will now face West Jessamine in the 46th district championship.

It should be a good game. West didn't look too good tonight against Burgin, but that's a hard game to judge.

Wow. I really expected a lot more from Mercer. I figured they would at least win one game at home. They should learn from this loss and use it to strengthen themselves for next year. A lot of talent coming back and coming up as well.

They didn't play bad. It was a really good game between two dead-even teams. I think if they played 10 times, each team wins 5.

This was a great game. Two very equal teams and I agree if they played 10 times, each would win 5. I felt very sorry for the Mercer seniors. They have had lots of obsticals in their high school careers. You could tell that all three seniors wanted to win this game badly and gave 110%. Congratulations to East on a well played game.

Well, I am glad they didn't play bad. IMO, a loss is easier to take(as if ANY loss is easy to take) when you know you played to your abilities and potential. I hate losing when you know you didn't play your best or as good as you could have.

The Mercer game sounded like a wild one, beginning to end. Mercer's seniors were freshman regional champs, and never got in the big region since the realignment and addition of the Jessamines.

Because West didn't show up. They had scored 100 points and routed Burgin by 30 during the regular season. They didn't last night. West had no energy, no pep, and played like they just wanted to get the night over. That was obvious from the bleachers.

 

But yes, I do applaud Burgin's effort.

Another senior football player, who had started some games but was mostly the 6th man the year before was pretty much told there was much need for him, still went out played about 1 minute total in the first 2 or 3 games and then left the team. Another left the team mid season.

Yes. Head coach Nelson Cundiff was at the game on Tuesday night, but sat behind the bench. Assistant coach Spencer Tatum ran the team, as he's done all season. Tatum was the long-time coach at Harrodsburg before it closed, and has been an assistant at the new Mercer since it opened.

 

Personally, I don't think Cundiff will be back next season. But I have no idea.

Mercer still had a nice season, and they have a kid or two on that team with nice talent... I think the Cinamon kid is just a Soph. He should be a stud in his Junior and Senior years.

I don't believe that he doesn't like football players. The players in question had little basketball skill (from what I saw) or had very bad attitudes excluding Jorden Yeast. I am not for sure why he quit the team this year but he was lucky to even getting the chance to play again after he quit the team last year.

Mercer is building a bright future but they must have the right coach, administration support and fan support to continue the growth.

Cundiff is a nice guy who gets a lot of flack for his coaching style. Should he be back? I say yes after what happened this year with his car accident. Spencer Tatum definately should not be the head coach. The man cannot coach which has been proven over several years at Harrodsburg and this year at Mercer.
