I thought Harris guarded him in the first half when Downey was held to 4 points. Downey scored 19 in the 2nd half, I thought largely because Gillispie took Harris out for most of the 2nd half for unknown reasons. That is when Downey was able to do a lot of his damage.

 

They had several guys try to guard him, Harris being one of those, but nobody contained him well. Even though he only had 4 points in the first half, 3 of his 4 assists came in the first half.

The game with South Carolina tomorrow has huge implications. A UK win, almost guarantees UK any tiebreakers. The first tiebreaker is head to head, which a UK win tomorrow makes that a wash. The second tiebreaker is division record, which with a win tomorrow UK would almost assure that tiebreaker as well.

A zone is a gimmick defense that shows weaknesses. "Man up" and show them that you are tougher and just flat out better. I hate zone.

 

What about in the Vandy game when we had no one to guard inside? Sometimes you have to cover up weaknesses, especially when a guy like Pat is out.

Then what does it say for UK, that many teams play zone against UK, and that seems to be when UK struggles the most... If a zone is so "weak" and it is a gimmick defense, what does it say for UK that they can not beat the "gimmick"???:sssh:

You would rather lose than try to cover up a weakness? I'm glad you aren't the coach (even though that's how ours is). There are many different reasons a team may play a zone. Just like in football, there are many different defense's and strategies. The "man to man only" mentality often hurts us.

Believe me, i'm glad i'm not the coach too. We would lose so many ball games it is not even funny. Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean you have to act like your opinion is the be-all end-all though.

Kentucky and ESPN will be teaming up over the next two weeks for an all-access

look into the UK men?s basketball program. As a part of its All-Access series,

ESPN will be following the team around on two separate occasions for a

behind-the-scenes look, the first of which will start on Tuesday when the team

lands in Columbia S.C, for the South Carolina game.

Upon arrival in Columbia, the ESPN crew will document what goes behind preparing

for an opponent. The access will include practice, film sessions, game coverage,

locker room access and postgame meetings, and UK Coach Billy Gillispie will wear

a microphone throughout the filming.

After the South Carolina game, the crew will return for another all-access look

for the Georgia game.

Both will air on ESPN?s GameDay on subsequent Saturdays. The South Carolina

footage will air this Saturday during GameDay and the Georgia coverage will be

broadcast March 7.
