February 16, 200917 yr I have played since I was 7. Helped to pay my way through my final year of college. The best thing you can do is play, play, play, then play some more. A few tips: 1. Much like anything else you are working on getting better at, you will hit 'the wall' when you feel like you have stopped making progress. The best way to get thru that wall (IMHO), is to find someone else who plays and play with them for a while. I always learned more from other guitar players, some who weren't as good as I was and many who were better. 2. Play every day. Even if you only have 15 minutes free, use that 15 minutes and play 3. Enjoy it! Playing the guitar has always been one of my favorite things to do. The more you play, the better you get, the more enjoy it, the more you want to play, the better you get, .... 4. Don't call it 'practice', call it playing. It's much more fun that way. 5. If you really are enjoying it, don't hesitate to spend a little more money and get a nicer guitar. There is a world of difference when you start stepping up in quality and a new guitar always inspired me a little bit more as well. :thumb:
February 17, 200917 yr Author Thanks for all of the great advice everybody. I think I had my first breakthrough today. I was actually able to put something somewhat nice sounding together. That's all the motivation I needed to keep practicing. Unfortunately, I don't really know anybody that plays, so finding someone to challenge me to get better might be a challenge in and of itself. I'll keep looking though...

I'll keep looking though... Don't know how it is today, but I used to meet other guitar players at local music stores. Many hang out there and you can pick stuff up from them. That is how I met some of the guys I played with in various bands. Just keep it up! It is one of those things you can do even when you are getting older like me! :thumb:
