February 11, 200917 yr We are looking into doing a family vacation in April maybe May. I am looking for suggestions on family friendly places. We have a 4 year old son and a 2 year old daughter. We go to Gatlinburg all the time so we are thinking of something a little different. We don't want to travel too far, 4 hours is about our limit. I would love to hear your ideas. Thanks
February 11, 200917 yr Well, I was going to suggest the Outer Banks, NC. But that's closer to 12 hours than 4. I went there last year with my niece & nephew (who were a little older than 2) and they loved it. We had a house with a pool, and that's where we spent most of our time. I'd recommend just renting a house with a private pool so that the little ones can swim and you can relax at night when they go to bed.

February 11, 200917 yr I think me and the wife are heading to Maine, but that is a little longer drive than 4 hrs.
February 11, 200917 yr 4 hours doesn't give a ton of options. Push back into May for better weather, I'm going to reccomend The Land Between the Lakes. Roughly just under 4 hours from Lexington. Absolutely fantastic place to enjoy peace and serenity and take pleasure with your family Stay at Kenlake State Resort Park. http://parks.ky.gov/findparks/resortparks/kl/ Mr FF is in Military? If so a room in the lodge with 2 doubles would be just under $400 for 7 days 6 nights. A one bedroom cottage with 2 doubles would be just under $600. Personally I like cottages because you have a kitchen and I like to eat breakfast and lunch in and then go out for a nice dinner.
February 11, 200917 yr Chattanooga is kid friendly. The aquarium is cool. Rock City and Ruby Falls is nice. They have an IMAX theater and a science museum for kids.
February 11, 200917 yr I want FairFan's vacation policy. You guys seem like you're always going somewhere.
February 11, 200917 yr Topsail Island in North Carolina is where my family has went for years. Affordable places on the beach with pool access and small, small crowds. You can also visit Wilmington which is a neat little town just 25 minutes away. The drive is probably closer to 8 hours though.
February 11, 200917 yr Author We are willing to go farther lol. We just like that drive, is a good day drive and the kids usually are good to not stop. I was curious about Michigan. Anyone ever been there?

Not Michigan, but lots to do in Cleveland. You can see the pro football hall of fame, rock and roll hall of fame, and the Cleveland Indians, browns, or Cavs depending on time of year. Also you can check out one of the great lakes while you are there.
February 11, 200917 yr It's farther then 4 hours... But I absolutely LOVE Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA!
February 11, 200917 yr Williamsburg, Virginia Education, Theme Parks, and the beach within easy driving distance.
