4 hours doesn't give a ton of options. Push back into May for better weather, I'm going to reccomend The Land Between the Lakes. Roughly just under 4 hours from Lexington. Absolutely fantastic place to enjoy peace and serenity and take pleasure with your family

Mr FF is in Military? If so a room in the lodge with 2 doubles would be just under $400 for 7 days 6 nights. A one bedroom cottage with 2 doubles would be just under $600. Personally I like cottages because you have a kitchen and I like to eat breakfast and lunch in and then go out for a nice dinner.

 

Excellent suggestion! I love this area, there is a nice drive through area where you can stop and look at bison and other animals. Still may be a little cold in April or May.

I don't know what part of KY you are in but Chicago isn't a bad drive. LOTS to do around there for little ones. I would wait until it warms up a bit though:)

Nashville is a lot of fun but not sure about it with a 4 year old.

I've got a meeting in a couple of weeks at the Grove Park Inn down in Ashville. It appears to be a nice little get away.

The Breaks is supposed to be pretty and is you are just going to hang around a cabin the Cumberland Falls is pretty.

I am curious to here from some of you how PutInBay is? It's not a kid place is it? Good place to go with friends?

Grew up in the area. Put-In-Bay is an absolute summer paradise if you like: fishing, swimming, partying, boating, hiking, wineries, watching sunsets or sunrises. It is almost exclusively a golf cart community. It is best enjoyed with a group of friends.

 

There's a nice brew pub there and there is also a Pasquale's on the island.

 

If you can get it, I would recommend renting the Admiral Perry's Inn Home. It will accomodate a group of 20. Runs $1500-$3000 for a week. split between 4 or five couples that's pretty reasonable.

Disney World, Sea World, Orlando is perfect for kids of that age!

We did some camping at Mammoth Cave when the boys were like mos, 2 and 4. It was a blast. The only down side was having to make a fire in the rain so I could warm up a baby bottle that was in the cooler. Also, don't take long trips in the cave, you'll end up carrying the kids.

5 1/2 hours to Sandusky. Take the ferry over from there. You could go to Cedar Point for a day, then head to the island.

Virtually anything. Casino, water parks, golf, lake, fishing, boating, amusement park, live shows, horseback riding, skiing and snowmobiling in the winter, you name it. A combination of nature and mega resort. Choose your level of rustic or plush. Very much family oriented.

 

Lake Delton is on schedule for full repair by this spring according to friends in the area. Dells is a little under 600 miles from Lexington.

It's just my opinion, but 2 is just a little young to really appreciate Disney World. I would wait a few years, 5 and 8 are really good ages for that trip. But it's hard to go wrong with Disney at any age.

I am thinking the same thing. I would love to take them in 2 years, plus that gives us time to save lol.

You definately want to wait on Disney World. If you are going to spend tons of money it would be nice if they remember it!

 

Down by Mamouth Cave is a place called Kentucky Down Under. I do not know if it is open year round, but my kids loved it when they were young. It is a zoo like place with kangaroos. There is also an aviary that the kids can go into and feed birds who are very tame and will let you hold them. They also have the opportunity to milk a cow.

 

Natural Bridge in Kentucky is also great. Very beautiful and there are a variety of nature trails for people of all ages. You can walk a short distance and have a picnic with them.

 

One of the things I am very glad I did is travel as much as I could with my kids. They really appreciate it and it creates such great memories.
