Final - Barnburner From Alexandria

Matt Geisler hits the game winner on an inbounds play with 1.9 seconds to play in the game to hand the Brossart Mustangs their first NKAC Division II loss.

Rieger leads Brossart with 18

Matt Geisler leads Breds with 18

Full House - Great Atmosphere

That final in-bounds play looked eerily familiar...perhaps Coach Brannen is a Demon Deacon fan???

Coach Code made one mistake tonight. That was calling a timeout after NewCath showed a box set on the out of bounds play. Then NewCath comes out in a 4 low set. Jake Giesler was the decoy on the out of bounds play and his brother had the perfect inside position on the block. Good play call. Great game by both squads.

I only got one complaint. Coach Pangallo, I know your team won against one of your rivals, but to go dancing and jumping (:taz:) around at halfcourt, classless. Especially, after your JV team got handled like they did.

Wasn't the dancing and jumping taking place after the varsity game? How is this classless? Coaches are not allowed to get excited? I hear a little bitterness in your post because the varsity lost...isn't the JV about development for varsity? Sounds as if a good play call by Coach Brannen won the game and Coach Pangallo was excited, as he should be, about the victory over a rival Class A School. Classless and Coach Pangallo do not go hand and hand. This is a man that reaches out to all kids and is a great motivator. Congrats to NCC on a great win.

Yes, after the varsity game. Classless because coaches are supposed to be above that. They aren't 17 yr old basketball players. Coaches are leaders. You win with class, most of the NCC staff did that.

Ohh and if someone from the Brossart staff did that they would be called out and them some.

This wasn't a regional championship. In this case a simple fist pump in the air and some high fives would have sufficed. Not jumping up and down in front of the Brossart bench. He was out there quicker than Usain Bolt.

Bitterness in my post because Brossart lost, no. I believe I posted that I was at a great game and watched a good play call at the end. I'm just glad I spent 5 bucks on admission on a Saturday night and witnessed a great game. Bitterness, no, I just had one complaint...

I do not agree with a slam on coach Pangallo. I am a Brossart fan and an NCC grad. I have been around basketball for 30 years and no one is a more passionate ambassador for the game of basketball that Jimmy Pangallo.

I know he roots for the Brossart kids and program evey day except on the NCC vs. Brossart game night.

Because it would be out of character for them to do so. If you know Jimmy or have seen him coach you know this is typical and you love watching him get excited. He was the same way after the all A win at Newport. It was really fun to see him race out to hug grant and the other players.

I guess the best thing to say is, this game just used to be another game on the schedule for NCC, now it has some major impact to both schools. I do agree with Lucky Charms, act like you have been there before..... a celebration with the coaching staff is great, but to run the floor with the players is a regional final response not a regular season reaction.

Good luck to both teams in the upcoming regional tourney's

Jimmy is 17 years old at heart. If you knew him, you would love him too. You could not ask for a better coach that cares more about our children. If you want to stop the celebration, win the game.

Well, I can promise you this. If someone from the Brossart staff did somthing similar to what happened last night, they would be ridiculed on here. I've seen it happen, just when people make stuff up about Code not shaking hands. Code is normally the first on across halfcourt to exchange a handshake with the opposing coach.

So, its OK for Jimmy to do this because it is expected, but in no way would it have been OK for someone from the Brossart staff to do it? Hmm.:isurrender:

Anyways, I'd hate for something like this to take away discussion from the game. It was an awesom high school environment.

I thought the difference in the game was Matt Giesler (#30) and the Olberding (know I didn't spell that right, #34) were the difference in the game. Brossart could handle Jake Giesler, Pangallo & Conner, but they just couldn't matchup that well with the other two. Again, awesome game by both squads.

First of all, i just want to congratulate both ball clubs. Both teams played there hearts out and the fans could not have asked for a more exciting game. The atmosphere was unbelievable. Brossart did a great job of hanging around and playing hard to stay in the game. They just had no answer inside. NCC just had so much more size. As far as the inbounds play at the end of the game, NCC was able to get that because of there size and that proved to be their advantage all night... SIZE.

As far as the celebration afterwards is concerned. Lucky Charms is right. If someone from the Brossart staff would have celebrated in that way, the same discussion would be happening on here concerning a Brossart coach. I know Jimmy was excited after the game and that is understandable. NCC won a huge rival game at the buzzer and anyone from NCC was excited. But you can jump up and down with your players after the game in the locker room. Shake the coaches hand first, then celebrate. I know when you get caught up in the moment it is hard because you want to celebrate with your players and I know this rivalry isn't just any other rivalry. But i agree with the old saying, "Act like you have won before." Some bitterness on my part, maybe. But that is just my opinion.

None of this should take away from the exciting game that took place last night. These kids fought hard all night and each team deserved to win. Congrats to both teams and good luck the rest of the year.

Congrats to both teams, very entertaining game. It's the first time I've seen Rieger play this year. He's a really nice player, good size and quickness and not a bad shooter from 3. Looks like he'll be playing at the next level.

The posts about Jimmy Pangallo are just unbelievable. Jimmy cares more about kids than any other person I have ever met. Sure he gets excited, but that's called passion. If you can't like Jimmy then you can't like many people, most people love him.

" Winner, winner, chicken dinner!!" Great job Matthew G.!!! And to all the Breds! Sounds like it was an "instant classic" type game! Keep the mojo going, baby!!

Not that I have a dog in this fight, but everyone on a sideline is emotional in any sport. Sure, you should always act like you have been there before, or expected to win, but the fact is that guys like Jimmy Pangallo spend a lot of time working with those kids during the year. He has pride in his alma mater, pride in his son, and pride in their program. You have to love excitement and how hard people work. If the head coaches were doing this, then you would see them slammed on message boards, or in the local watering hole. However, Mike Code is a class act and would never run on the floor, but would it hurt BBHS to show that excitement on a last second shot? No way!
