Girls game first or second on Boy/Girl night??

Featured Replies

Just a question I would like to see what everyone thinks. Do you think it is better for a girls team to play first or second on boy/girl nights? The reason I ask... If our team plays after the boys at halftime (regardless if we are up OR down) over half (and maybe 3/4) of the fans leave and our girls feel like crap because they know that the fans don't want to stay.

On the other hand... If the girls play first then no one is there for the first half but at least there at crunch time when hopefully the crowd will be more into the game.

Just a thought but I would like to hear what everyone thinks!

I think once the fans enter the gym to watch the games, they should be locked in so they can not leave until the last game is over.:D

Fan support is strange and some will leave, regardless of whom plays first.

So is it just a problem at my school or is it everywhere?

I believe for most situations it is better for the girls to play first. The boys generally draw a bigger crowd, and the girls can play for a very nice crowd in the second half at least.

It has to be a bit demoralizing if they play the second game and half the stands empty before they play.

I think that the ladies should play first.

When the girls play, the stands are populated with mostly family and friends. The boys have family, friends, and a student section. I rarely, if ever see a student section for girls games. The student section really adds to the atmosphere because of their enthusiasm. If the girls play first, they at least get the benefit of that, even if it's only for the 2nd half.

KHSAA rules require that if only one double-header is scheduled, either can play first, but if two or three are scheduled, the girls have to play second in at least one. Over 3, girls have to play second in half. I agree that fans should stay...the worst I've ever seen was when a radio station broadcast the boys game and left before the girls started.

When I coached, this happened during our regional tournament and I voiced my opinion of it and was treated very poorly over doing that.

As to the other question, our team just had a boy/girl game last night and the girls played second. We actually have a great fan base and have as many fans at the girls as at the boys. It was the second biggest gate of this year, (second to homecoming) and our fans stayed until the end. This is our second double header of the year, at home, and both times our girls played second.

We had a situation that was rather unique this year and it worked out wonderfully. Our boys JV played the opener, followed by our girls game, and the boys varsity finshed the evening up. Talk about trapping your boys fans!:thumb:

That sounds like a GREAT IDEA!!!!

I'll agree to a certain extent, If your JV team is like ours only the parents of the JV team usually show up to watch them play and a very few others as well but I see what your saying.

I'd like to see the girls play first on most nights. I agree that the boys get more fans and it ends up benefitting the girls more to have them at the end of the game.
