KHSAA rules require that if only one double-header is scheduled, either can play first, but if two or three are scheduled, the girls have to play second in at least one. Over 3, girls have to play second in half. I agree that fans should stay...the worst I've ever seen was when a radio station broadcast the boys game and left before the girls started.

 

If there is enough sponsors radio stations would broadcast a third grade game.

This happened a recent Dixie/Lloyd boy/girl double-header, in which the boys played first. After the boys game, the announcer said, "Please make sure you have all of your personal belongings and have a safe trip home"!!!! Not one mention of the upcoming girls game or encouraging anyone to stay for it. Also the boys team got on the bus and headed home.... WOW. Would it really have been so hard for them to stay to support the girls?! So I say...Girls First!!

Some D-1 conferences have double headers and always have girls first. That is where title IX started, so why does it require it switched for KY High school?? Ask any girl Bball player and they will tell you .....girls first!!!

Girls game first if they want any fans there...

I believe for most situations it is better for the girls to play first. The boys generally draw a bigger crowd, and the girls can play for a very nice crowd in the second half at least.

 

It has to be a bit demoralizing if they play the second game and half the stands empty before they play.

Most would agree the girls should play first for all purposes mentioned, but the KHSAA will not let that happen. Due to Title 9 issues, sometimes the girls do have to play the last game unfortunately.
