So, it is unfair for people to vote for the situation that best fits their school? They should bow to what fits the other schools in their voting and worry about those players more than their own?

Your last statement is false.

10th region schools will tell you that Pendleton County brings the best crowds when they are in the tournament. And they are not one of the "big" schools.

Brossart brings a very good crowd and they are a "small" school.

And thanks for bringing up the ALL A region and state tournaments that are a blind draw too.

So, the region does not have seeding.

THe state does not have seeding.

The ALL A region does not have seeding.

The ALL A state does not have seeding.

I don't think there is an inseason tournament anywhere in the state that has season.

But despite NO OTHER TOURNAMENT having seeding, we want to see the district.

That's like having a stimulus plan where you spend millions on the National Endowment for the Arts.:D

Not unfair for people to vote what's best for their school at all...I was simply stating that the majority of the coaches voting for the blind draw are those at small schools who can't compete year in and year out. (Hence the reason Bellevue and Dayton vote for the blind draw in the 36th and Newport to try to avoid Highlands and Newcath in the semi's)

The All A region isn't seeded because not all teams have played one another, same with the All A state tourney and the Sweet 16. Technically the region tournament is seeded in a way because a district champ always gets a district runner up and both teams from the same district are put in opposite brackets.

If we're going to use a blind draw for the district tournaments, wouldn't it just make more sense to play two extra regular season games against down state competition instead and then just do a blind draw for every team to form a "super regional?"

Having a blind draw in the District Tournament is a joke. The best teams may not get to the regional because they have to face each other in the 1st round of the district. Then some team with 4 or 5 wins sneaks into the regional to take a severe beating in the 1st round. I came from a small school who's program was not real good and our AD always voted for the blind draw because we knew we couldn't compete with the best and hoped we would draw opposite them. Actually though, if we made it to the regional, what did we actually accomplish? Nothing, we knew we got there through the back door and we knew we were like calves going to the slaughter house. Seeding is the best way to do it. It forces all district opponents to play each other and those regular season games mean something.

For fans maybe. Not for coaches. It prepares your game plan when you get in postseason play.

And if I were a coach, I would thus not bother to play the other team. I'd rather not let them prepare for me in the postseason, and have more faith in my ability to prepare for them without a game on the court.

I am a big fan of seeding, in Montgomery's district which is the 40th, they switched to seeding about 3 years ago, and I love it, you play each of the 3 other teams in your district twice, and you get a 1,2,3, or 4 seed based on those games. I think it gives the regular season some actual meaning.

Every team's situation is different, but some teams should not have to schedule everybody in their district twice. A lot of people on here are hard on other's schedules. It would be tougher to beef up the schedule when you have 6 mandated games.

Not really, it's only 6 games, you can still have a tough schedule, and I think it is the only real fair way to get the match ups for the district tournament.

I don't want to offend anybody, but for example, how would Royal fans like for Mason to drop games vs. Scott Co., Henry Clay, Lexington Catholic, Elliott Co., etc. to play all their district members twice each season? Another thread was about Madison Central dominating their district, is it seeded, if so do they play everybody twice? Just some questions.

Make the regular season mean something and seed the district tournament.

No we don't play each team in the district twice in the 40th. GRC only plays Bourbon and Paris once, We do play Montgomery Co twice and rotate which game will count as the district seed.

Yes you are right Goldie:thumb:, this year the teams didn't play everybody twice, but I know for a fact the two years before they did.

I agree with your points!:thumb:

I would soon play the toughest team in the first round of the district. If you beat them they go home. That reminds me of one instance in 1996. The 64th district seeds. Well Boyd Co. had been ranked #1 most of the year. They beat Ashland in the finals of the district. But guess who beats them in the finals of the region? You got it Ashland. Ashland then make a remarkable run to the state finals. My point is if they went with the blind draw. They could have very well drew each other in the first round of the disrtict. Then they could have eliminated their toughest opponent and not had to worry about them later down the road. I'm sure this has happened in other districts throughout the state.I believe this has happened to Hazard and Perry Cent. also.

I could care less that the two best teams represent my district. I just want to make sure my team is there. If I have to beat out the best team first so be it. Just makes things better for you later down the road. If I can't beat them then I don't deserve to be there anyway. I know I am one of the rare few that like the blind draw. But thats my story and I'm sticking to it.:

Same thing happened in 04/05 and 06/07 to Covcath. They beat Holmes in the 35th district finals but lost to Conner in 04/05 in the region semi's then lost to Holmes in 06/07 in the region championship. Holmes went on to Rupp in 04/05 and in 06/07 they made it all the way to the state semi's. IMO it's stories like that though that are the reason to send the district runner up and champ to the region tournament. The best team doesn't always necessarily win the district championship.

Heck, in 06/07 Covcath beat Holmes 3 times during the regular season and districts with Holmes never being at full strength. The region championship rolled around with Holmes finally being healthy and they got the best of the Colonels, beating them by 12.

I think you make the perfect argument but for the other side. If Ashland loses in that first game of the district they don't get that chance to make the remarkable run to the state finals. I see no since in having the best two teams play each other in the first round. In a lot of cases the two best teams in the region come out of the same district and as a basketball fan I would like to see the two best teams in the finals of the region battling it out to see who goes to Rupp.

Blind draw is a joke and I wish the KHSAA would step in and make it a rule to seed in every district in the state. By the blind draw you make the season pointless and you sometimes do not put the best two teams in the district final game which is what you want.
