I say seeded. It makes the regular season games mean a little more

I say seed the districts and regions. Leave the State alone since most teams haven't played each other.

I say do the districts the same way the state tournament is done. Blind draw.

If that is good enough for what many on here say "Best HS basketball tournament in the country" than it is good enough for the districts.

I agree.

The only thing I don't understand about the way some districts seed, is why each team plays twice to determine the seed. Using that set up, you then have to use formulas and point differentials just to determine a team's seed. I say play each team in your district head to head once and seed using that game.

So, who decides who gets the home court advantage in your play once method?

A blind draw makes playing district games pointless.

For fans maybe. Not for coaches. It prepares your game plan when you get in postseason play.

I think seeding is the only way to go. What if a district has the top two teams in your respective region? If their district is a blind draw, they could potentially meet up in the first round which will automatically eliminate one of the two top teams from making the regional tournament which is honestly punishing them despite their hard work and success throughout the regular season.

IMO the only way to get the 8 best teams in the region tournament is to seed all districts. The small schools can complain all they want, but that's why they have the All "A" region and state tournament.

In the 9th, year in and year out, Holmes and Covcath are generally the two best teams and also in the same district. It would be unfair to both teams to use a blind draw to decide how their post season was going to play out. Let the teams EARN their way through the post season.

If you want them to earn their way, loser of district championship stays home and either Holmes or Covcath shouldn't make the regional tournament.

Not sure I agree with this. The majority of the coaches around the state vote for seeding because it makes district games more important during the regular season while also rewarding those teams who do well with an easy first round tourney game to ensure the best 8 teams are in the region tournament. If we're going to use a blind draw, why even play other members of your district? What about Newcath last year who was the only NKY team to beat Holmes but were sent home early because they got matched up with the best team in their district? Wouldn't you have much rather seen them in the region tournament than seeing Holmes beat Bellevue by 46 points in the first round of region?

That's one of the reasons Highlands doesn't play Bellevue and Dayton in the 36th...it does nothing to make them better since it's going to be a blind draw regardless, so why play them?

Rotates every other year. You're only going to get home court advantage once every 4th or 5th year in the district tournament, depending on how many teams are in your district, which makes playing twice even less relevant.

They do a blind draw in the state tournament because a lot of the teams haven't played one another which makes it unfair to seed from a ranking system.

I agree with seeding ETA, but it still doesn't ensure the best 8 teams in the region. Take for instance 06/07, when the best three teams in the 9th region were in the 35th District and Ludlow, who I think had 7 wins made it too the regional. It really depends on the District your in.

I agree but I think the point is...districts seed to make sure their two best representatives are sent to the region tournament.

Actually it is the majority of athletic directors who vote.

No, I wouldn't because the split of the regional pot can fund athletic projects at those small schools. I was told once that Deming was able to redo the entire audio system in their gym with the split from the 10th region pot that they got after a blind draw. Something they would not have been able to afford without the split.

If you go seeding, than the regional tournament split has to go EQUAL to every single team in the region or the rich just keeps getting richer.

In the 10th Region, we are talking MINIMUM of $5,000 for the 8 teams that makes it to the regional tournament. At least that is what it was at Mason County. The 37th better pull that same figure at NKY.

So, it's not a fair system than with one team getting the home game and the other does not.

On the home court advantage, that is not true. Some schools gyms are not large enough to host regionals, so the district tournament is not held there. Deming and Nicholas County does not host the regional tournament because there gym is too small. Pendleton doesn't because the vote was 2-2 on whether they were large enough to host the district. So Harrison County hosts it each year.

I agree but I think the point is...districts seed to make sure their two best representatives are sent to the region tournament.

If it is to make sure than first round upsets are to be outlawed?

AT NO OTHER LEVEL, of what is called the greatest HS basketball tournament in the country, is it seeded. WHY change it at the district level?

We don't make sure the best 16 teams make the state tournament.

I think the only coaches around the state voting for the blind draw are those at small schools because they know year in and year out they aren't going to be able to compete with the big schools. It may not be "fair" in some people eyes but honestly that's why they have the All "A" region and state tournament. Why punish the big schools and keep them from making the region tournament by forcing the two best to play in round one of districts, just because a few of the little guys want to complain about an "unfair advantage?" Honestly it's those big schools bringing the little guys all that money when they actually do make it to the region tourney.

So, it is unfair for people to vote for the situation that best fits their school? They should bow to what fits the other schools in their voting and worry about those players more than their own?

Your last statement is false.

10th region schools will tell you that Pendleton County brings the best crowds when they are in the tournament. And they are not one of the "big" schools.

Brossart brings a very good crowd and they are a "small" school.

And thanks for bringing up the ALL A region and state tournaments that are a blind draw too.

So, the region does not have seeding.

THe state does not have seeding.

The ALL A region does not have seeding.

The ALL A state does not have seeding.

I don't think there is an inseason tournament anywhere in the state that has season.

But despite NO OTHER TOURNAMENT having seeding, we want to see the district.

That's like having a stimulus plan where you spend millions on the National Endowment for the Arts.:D

Having a blind draw in the District Tournament is a joke. The best teams may not get to the regional because they have to face each other in the 1st round of the district. Then some team with 4 or 5 wins sneaks into the regional to take a severe beating in the 1st round. I came from a small school who's program was not real good and our AD always voted for the blind draw because we knew we couldn't compete with the best and hoped we would draw opposite them. Actually though, if we made it to the regional, what did we actually accomplish? Nothing, we knew we got there through the back door and we knew we were like calves going to the slaughter house. Seeding is the best way to do it. It forces all district opponents to play each other and those regular season games mean something.
