March 24, 201016 yr If you exclude recruiting, then maybe. But he's outstanding at player development, and you CAN'T seperate that from X's and O's, IMO. Honestly, when discussing college coaches, I don't think you can exclude recruiting either. Its every bit as much a part of the job, and arguable more important to overall success. :thumb:
March 24, 201016 yr I am just going to throw Darrin Horn's name in the mix as no where near a top 5 or 10 but as a top 10-15. I really like what he has done at every program he has been at. I see him as a UK canidate one day in the distant future after he has more time to prove himself.

March 24, 201016 yr You can't exclude recruiting. IMO there are 4 main factors: 1. Recruiting 2. X's and O's 3. Player development 4. Motivation

Motivation I think Calipari has an argument for being the #1 coach in America at the first and fourth thing you listed. There are plenty of better x's and o's coaches out there, and are more than a few better at developing players - but just a few.
March 24, 201016 yr After watching him for a year, I believe Calipari is find in the X's and O's category. I just think his ability to bring in elite talent overshadows it. I'm not saying he's the best, but he's not in over his head. He knows what he's doing.
