Is it true that if a varsity player quits in the middle of the year is he/she ineligible to play another varsity sport that they are a member of? Could someone please bing me up to speed? Thank you.

I have never heard of such a rule. Why would a student athlete be penalized from playing another sport because he quit a team???

Now, of course, I don't believe in quitting. We have always told our boys that if you start something you must finish it. But there are reasons sometimes for a student to withdraw from athletics, grades, family problems, etc.

Couldn't find anything on the KHSAA about this type of rule, anyone else?

I don't believe this is a KHSAA rule, however, I am sure this is a school rule at most schools. If you quit a team, the school will not allow the player to play another sport until the sport they quit is finished for the year.

This could be a school rule, not one from the KHSAA, maybe to keep a player from quitting the basketball team to start practice in baseball, or maybe football to basketball. Good rule if all programs work together.

Schools can and have instituted a Rule, regarding quitting a team and not being eligible for another. The only KHSAA requirement, is leaving a team is minimum practice time for some sports and being academically, along with grade eligible.

Thanks guys. I was pretty sure it was a school by school rule but wasn't sure.

:thumb: Several schools have this rule, but I agree, it isn't a KHSAA rule.

This is a very good rule JMO . I think if a player starts something they should finsh. Alot of schools have started doing this. But i think the coach should let them know the rule before they begin.

Most schools have their athletic code or policy included in the student handbook that each student is given a copy of and required to read and sign. Many schools even require a signed copy of the code/policy to be turned in before starting the season.
