I have never been priviledged to snag a home run or foul ball at a game. My first game I went to Riverfront was against the Cubs and we were in the blue seats down the 3rd baseline. Pete Rose hits a screamer that my Dad tags with his hand and my buddy of now 40 years catches it. My Dad had a blister that covered the whole palm of his hand... ouch !! :eek:

 

I have never got a baseball during a game, but I found out the easiest way to get a batting practice ball. A lot of folks I know have gone early, with gloves in hand, two hours before the game hoping to snag a ball. Not me, I show up at game time just in time for the national anthem at best. A couple of summers ago as I arrived at my seat in right field just before the opening pitch, I looked down and what did I see? An official Major League Baseball staring me in the face, so I bent over and picked it up. It must have been there unseen from BP before the gates opened. See it's not so hard. :ylsuper:

July 22, 1980. Mario Soto outdueled Steve Carlton to win 3-2. Bob Boone hit the game's only home run. Turns out I got to see future Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt, Johnny Bench, Tom Seaver, and Steve Carlton as well as Pete Rose. Tug McGraw pitched the final two innings in relief of Carlton.

Sept. 18, 1983. Reds vs. Astros for my 7th birthday. Mario Soto vs. Mike Scott. Astros won 4-1 on HRs by Terry Puhl and Alan Ashby. I sat in the green seats along the 1st base line. It was team picture day. I got a batting glove, and a Johnny Bench pennant that I still have.

April 1986 Reds and Phillies, my parents took me. Was cold and rainy, but I loved it.

My first Reds game was at Crosley Field, it was around 1963, I wasn't in school yet and was 5 years old. I believe the Reds played the Cardinals but not sure about that. (it has been quite a long time from 5 to 51, lol.). One of the Reds was some rookie named Pete Rose, they also had Vada Pnson and Leo Cardenas.

I do remember my parents taking me and my sisters and us taking the train to Cincy and back from Ashland,Ky. . That was one great trip for a little guy.

In my first game I got to yell at Barry Bonds in left field. I was young, but even then I knew he was up to no good.

My first Reds game was in 1987... Pete Rose was the Manager of the club, and he got thrown out for arguing with the umpire in the late innings.

 

I was hooked there-after.

My first game with in 1996 when the Reds played the Atlanta Braves.
