MBWC41 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Today is the day I decided to make some progress with my New Years resolution to quit smoking. I have been down from a pack a day to around 5 cigarettes a day since New Years. Today I decided to see if I'm able to just quit cold turkey. I woke up at 7:30 this morning and haven't had one yet. That may not sounds that difficult to some of you, but for me, the early morning cigarette is by far the hardest to give up. I threw away the pack I had last night, I wanted to make sure that I didn't have any to tempt me today. This combined with the diet I'm on has me shaky and mad at the world right now :madman:
HammerTime Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Get through the first week and its gets easier. At least for me it did.
Beechwoodfan Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Are you using the patch or gum? That might help take the edge off.
woodsrider Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Stay strong man. The first couple of weeks are the hardest. Not that the next 40 years will be easy but it will get better. Just remember that if you make it a couple of months do fool yourself by thinking you can have just one. That was always my mistake. I finally learned that there is no such thing as just one and have been smoke free for almost 4 1/2 years.
MBWC41 Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Are you using the patch or gum? That might help take the edge off. I've tried both in the past. Neither seemed to do much for me. Not having one to smoke seems to be the most effective method so far. I'm too lazy to go get any
MBWC41 Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Get through the first week and its gets easier. At least for me it did. Do you still smoke when you drink, HT ? I'm a little concerned about that aspect of this.

I'm actually very strong willed when it comes to things like this. I had quit once before and like you decided that one every now and then wouldn't hurt. One turned into a pack a day again.
sportsfan41 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Do you still smoke when you drink, HT ? I'm a little concerned about that aspect of this. You ever dip? Also seriously, chew gum period, and keep alot with you, it'll help. Any time you think about a cig, stick in a new piece of gum.
Beechwoodfan Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I had a grandmother die from emphysema. Not a pretty way to go. Go online and google emphysema. Some of those pics might remind you of why you made the resolution. Good luck! It is a very tough habit to break!

Seeing the shape she is in is my reasoning for quitting.
HammerTime Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Do you still smoke when you drink, HT ? I'm a little concerned about that aspect of this. Yes I do, thats about impossible. I am trying to drop that as well but its really hard. I don't have to many though.

Same drug, different delivery system, but still causes cancer where ever it goes.

I dip, but after a while, IMO, it get's harder and you usually don't do it as much as opposed to smoking. It kinda helps to that dipping isn't as socially acceptable.
