Holmes came out smoking and never looked back. Pittman came out tonite playing hard and I was very happy to actually see him play the way he should play. Holmes completely dominated the boards. Nice win Bulldogs!!! :flame:

Missing two key starters hurt Franklin Co. bad. I wish they would have all been there, would have made for a better game.

I think his name was Derek Meyer - #22 - Couldn't miss a shot. Very good offensive and defensive player. NICE GAME!!! :thumb:

Holmes jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead after a two hand Pittman dunk on a break away and cruised the rest of the quarter. The hot shooting from outside by Riley and R. Johnson gave them a 20-9 lead heading in to the second quarter.

 

Second quarter:

Franklin Co started the quarter on a 7-0 run to close within 20-16 but that would be close as they'd get. Holmes got up 30-21 and then we saw the play of the game. Pittman got the ball on the free throw line, took a shot and missed, followed his shot and threw it down hard off the rim off his own miss. Drew a few oohhhs and ahhhhs from both crowds. Holmes went in to the half up 37-23 as Dom Johnson hit a 3 at the buzzer.

 

Third quarter:

Holmes got the ball at the start of the third and carried the momentum from the buzzer shot to end the half. Just three minutes in to the second half, Holmes had increaded their lead to 47-27 and was up 53-30 with 2:07 left in the third. Holmes took a 58-32 lead in to the fourth quarter.

 

Fourth Quarter:

Holmes extended their lead to 29 at 65-36 with 5:46 to play and then Henley took out Pittman and Rico for the rest of the game. Franklin Co went on another 7-2 run to cut the Holmes lead to 67-43 with 3:33 to play but they couldn't cut in to the lead enough to get it under 20. Holmes played their JV the last 4 minutes and came away with a 70-48 win.

 

For Franklin Co I was very impressed with Meyer. He has a quick release, quick off the dribble, and uses his body well to create separation when driving. Very nice player and has a nice mid range-outside game. Donovan was probably the second leading scorer but struggled early against Pittman and I believe had his first 3 shots blocked. He settled down in the second half though and surprised me with how well he can shoot the ball from outside. Hall came on late and is very quick.

 

For Holmes, it was a very balanced scoring night. I'd say Riley, Arnold, Pittman, and R. Johnson all finished in double figures. Arnold played VERY well and shot the ball well from outside. He had I believe 2 or 3, 3 pointers. Holmes outside shooting was the difference in this game. They had to have made atleast 10 3's. All in all, I'm sure Coach Henley was pleased with the W.

Barrett Meyer is his name. Sat with his dad tonight. Barrett was the most impressive player IMO for Franklin Co. He indeed had a very nice game.

Actually Hicks was the only starter they were missing. Watkins comes off the bench.

 

They would have been nice to have tonight but honestly wouldn't have made that big of a difference and Holmes probably would have still won by atleast 15+ Holmes shot the ball VERY WELL from outside tonight.

Arnold had IMO his best game of the year. Shot the ball well from outside, made several hustle plays, had a few blocks and rebounds and even got a few nice assists in.

Good to see a total team effort from Holmes. I got a feeling they are fin to start peeking. Do you know what the matchups for tomorrow look like.

Disappointing loss for the Flyers...but more the final score and the fact they didn't have their best game. Most of that was due to a very complete Holmes team. When they shoot like that I don't see how they will be beaten. I don't know their three point percentage tonight but it had to be high...and they weren't uncontested shots. They are also patient, run their offense and don't take bad shots.

 

I don't know of any players in Kentucky, in high school anyway, that can post inside against Pittman, he is just too long. All of their players get position and go to the boards. It hurt losing Conner so early to foul trouble already being short handed.

 

Flyers just need to regroup for tomorrow's game.

He played pretty good but I'm not sure I would say he couldn't miss a shot. Against Shelby county you could say that. He did hit a few threes but also missed many. Does anyone have his stats including made and missed threes. I would guess about 3 for 9 behind the arc.
