Point Guards - Who are the good ones?

Featured Replies

From NKy.com stats

Riley Holmes 45 assists & 38 Turnovers

Gabbard Boone Co. 52 assists & 33 turnovers

Pangallo NewCath 63 assists & 36 turnovers

Beuttel Beechwood 48 assists & 33 turnovers

Smith Scott HS 93 assists & 57 turnovers

Bryan Villa 51 assists & 49 turnovers

Biggest difference between Riley and those other PG's though is they are their team's only option at the point, hence their assists being higher.

Ricardo also runs the point for Holmes at times.

R. Johnson 50 assists 33 turnovers

He is another player that a case could be made for as being one of the top pg's around. When he runs the point, Riley moves over to the 2.

And their turnovers are higher as well for the same reason. They don't have the luxury of another ballhandler who can share the load.

Very legit point.

I'll take R. Johnson/Riley running the point over any of those mentioned though. :D

I'd have to add Fonze Custard to this list. He amazes me with his court vision. Although he trys to force a couple bad passes every now and then, all of his great assists overshadow these as if they never hapened. He also has great handles. He can dribble through some tough situations and draw the defenses attention and then get the ball in his teams shooters hands. I really like the way he plays.

Let's keep in mind, the assist stat is not exactly scientific.;)

Who? I've never even heard of him.

Strange for Pineville High School. One of the top two or 3 Point Guards in the mountains.

I'd question the turnover stat as well. All the above mentioned have good handles though!!!

Turnover to assist ratio is one way to judge PG's in addition to the other stats mentioned. Even this can be misleading as style of play can dictate difficulty of passes a PG is asked to make. A team that is constantly pushing the ball down the floor to create extra possessions will create additional assist for the PG but they will also have more turnovers as well.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of the PG's on this list.

93 is a lot of assists. Bryan's turnovers are the highests but sees a lot of double teams. How is Beuttel on the list?

Buettel was listed on an earlier post as one of the top PG's in N Ky. He does play point for Beechwood and does a very good job but with his ability to shoot the 3 he might be better suited to play the 2.

When I saw him play he seemed to be a one on one player with very few assist. Took some bad shots.

Riley is listed at 5'11 but he's much taller than that. I'm 6'0 and he's taller than me.

Henley tends to downplay the size of his players when listing them unlike other coaches who go overboard and give their players 2 or 3 inches more than what they really are..

Honestly, he is probably right around 5'11. Maybe 6'0 with shoes on. You have told me time and time again youre 5'10 lol. I know youre not 6'0, and if you were, if he was taller than you he'd be at what like 6'1 or 6'2? That would be a pretty legit height.

I still think Riley is the best PG around here. But his height is obviously what is keeping him from d1 looks.

Who? I've never even heard of him.

I believe this is the PG for Harrison Co. I seen him play a couple of games, and theres no way he should be mentioned as one of the top PG. Hes a good player, but doesnt compare to others on the list.

PS: They have him listed as a center on the roster on BGP.

Shina Giwa from Holy Cross who has started since is sophomore year.
