January 15, 200917 yr Apparently Pete Carroll advised Sanchez to return to school... I thought Carroll gave him a pretty good bashing in the press conference. I couldn't believe it. He'll be be no worse than 2nd round, probably 1st round. He's concidered to be one of the top 2 QBs coming out, some concider him the top QB. How is he making a mistake? IMO a mistake would be staying. There are going to be several good QBs coming out next year.

But Pete wants those skills to be honed at USC, so that USC can win a title and Sanchez might have a Heisman shot. Those same skills can be honed by the tutelage of NFL coaches running a faster game. Mark is going to get his degree in communications this spring. The other quarterbacks are staying put in a year in which smart quarterbacks may be paid a premium - by Detroit, by Kansas City, among others. Another interesting factor is the plethora of new NFL head coaches who might like to have a new quarterback to themselves. Sanchez lost Steve Sarkisian and the dynamic there at USC is just a bit different. USC quarterbacks should have learned their lesson when Matt Leinart stayed and cost himself a bundle. Sanchez should take the money and run. Interestingly, I like him up in San Francisco since the 49ers contract is up on Alex Smith and the various other options can play in front of him for a year or two and let him simmer over low heat. He is a pure drop-back pocket passer with a pretty explosive arm, pinpoint accuracy, and good field vision. He is not a runner but slides from pressure pretty well. I am concerned about his gimpy knees. Incidentally, the Trojans will be fine. They get 4 of 5 starters back on the OL, have 2 returning tailbacks, Havili at fullback, some 5 star recruits at tight end, and Damian Williams at wideout. Its either Mustain's, or Aaron Corp, or possibly even Matt Barkley, the highest rated high school quaterback in the country. Mustain was 6-0 against SEC competetion as a starter at Arkansas, so he's no pushover.

Mark Sanchez just played one year of football at USC while Matt Leinart played three. I personally agree with Pete Carroll although I do think Mark Sanchez has a great shot of being a very good professional quarterback.
January 17, 200917 yr Smart move with all the top college QB's staying in school. His draft position looks alot better now with those guys out. I think he was probably waiting to see what they did.
