I agree! But I look for the Rams to be at least 8-2. I look forward to them matching their record last season. Ashland and LCA are the only two games I worry about.

 

I think an 8-2 record would be a huge accomplishment for Raceland given what they lost last year and the difficulty of this year's schedule.

 

Obviously, playing at Ashland and at LCA are going to be VERY difficult games to win. Ashland has some extremely talented players returning and I doubt they are going to want to lose to Raceland at home again...so I would anticipate maximum effort from them in game 1. LCA simply has too much talent for the Rams next year. From what I recall, they return most of their players. As another poster pointed out, they should be one of the top teams in the state in any class.

 

Other than those 2 games, I would think the only "gimmes" on the schedule would be Fleming County, Nicholas County, and Paris. In my opinion, the games with Greenup County, East Carter, Fairview, Boyd County, and Russell will all be a challenge and could go either way.

 

It is a good schedule, though, and should be a good test of where the Raceland program stands. I look forward to football season as basketball season is sort of a dud this year in the 16th region since everybody knows they aren't beating Elliott County.

I said in an earlier post that a goal was to be playing in Louisville (pizza box) for a state title, I believe I was mistaken and the state title games are in Bowling Green this year.

Sorry to get off topic, back to the original thread title. I cannot wait for another season of Raceland Ram football!

I have been around Raceland football since the late 60's/early 70's and don't see that ever changing.

I can see where an outsider would think a lot of these regular season games could be toss ups. The reality of this issue is that Raceland has enough tradition and talent that gives them a push in these so called toss ups. I want a team in a close game to feel they are going to have enough to pull it out when the game is on the line instead of wondering who is going to let down and find a way to lose. I know for a fact that the Rams will be mentally and physically tough to go into next season to try and go further than the 2008 seniors. Will we be undefeated going into the Regional championship next year? Probably not, but this is the make up of the team, coaches, fans and the adimnistration - playing deep into the playoffs and expecting to find a way to get to the Championship game. Raceland, barring injuries, will be playing in week three of the playoffs next year. I just hope that we can return the favor to LCA. We owe them, and I hate to be indebted to another team!!!!!!!!!

I know there has been a lot of debate regarding bye weeks. That being said, does anyone have comments about the advantages/disadvantages Raceland will have with this schedule and no breaks in it? I honestly don't think it will bother them, but that is just my opinion.

My experience is that Raceland has not played well after coming back from the bye week. And scheduling the bye week to anticipate possible injury is impossible. Unless Raceland has several injuries, I don't see it being a problem, and will probably be good for the team.

 

With that being said, I wish they would go back to having a week off following week 10 and prior to the first playoff game. I see that as more of a benefit then having a week off during the season, because you have to prepare for teams that you don't see as often in the playoffs and the additional week would be useful in preparation.

I have heard of this and know of it at some places in the past but I don't see how a high school coach would want to take away from a kids chance in the football playoffs. A high school kid should be able to play any and all sports that he wants to as long as he keep his/hers grades up and the parents will allow it.

Yes, a playoff run would delay some kids in getting out on the basketball floor but I certainly would not hold it against the kid or the football coach / A.D. for scheduling a bye week late if they choose to do so. I frankly would hold it against anyone that were selfish enough to want this but that is another thread that I don't want to start again. Basketball season starts for most at the 1st of December and runs into March (post season). The football ends and the post season is in November. I don't have a problem (if I am a basketball coach)with a kid that wants to play football, is sucsessful and then the team goes into the playoffs (hopefully deep in the playoffs) and is late coming out on the basketball team bc of that.

This is high school we are dealing with and it is suposed to be about the kids.:thumb:

Old Rambler, Sidelinedoc, Ram, I do wish Raceland all the best this next year, I don't know if I will be at the Raceland game or not next year, since the boy will graduate in May and I won't have a football player to watch, but I may just show up and eat from your concession stand, I've never done that before. I'm hope you are right and that GCHS does do well.
