Has anyone heard of who might apply as head coach as a teacher?

I agree. The job just got posted and there have been a few people inquire about it. Who are the people that are in the school that you feel would be a good choice? There are several young players that played alot last year that need someone in place to keep everything going in the right direction. Good luck to TC.

 

This is only my opinion I think your former Asst. Coach Chism would be a perfect fit for TC he has been with the school for many years has a good reputation both with the school system administration and especially with the players I feel he would draw out more players and retain greater numbers for TC because of his personna. A great staff could be assembled right there at home Offensive line Chris Yates, Defensive Co. Mike Isley current teacher in Elementary school get Ron Logan back for Rec's and DB's and I think you have a real nice staff and guys that all the kids like and respect. Chism is already a Teacher so is Isley there you get the kids back in the weight room asap and dont cost them more time and more opportunity for argument sake.:thumb:

I wouldn't think that it would be appropriate to limit opportunities so early in the search. There is plenty of time. No need to jump the gun. Chism could be the best choice, but that remains to be seen. He many not want it. There is quite a big difference between MS head coach and HS head coach. The difference in time committment is enormous and I know that Chism is a family man first. I haven't heard that Isley was interested in becoming a coach again. Also, what has changed in Logan's situation that would allow him to consider coaching again?

 

As for the weightroom program, perhaps the current assistant coaches could work that out? I do know that many of the older guys have a weight lifting class at school. Some of the rest play basketball and baseball, so they are already involved. I wouldn't hire a coach just to be able to continue weightlifting. There are a lot of good coaches out there looking for a job.

Again...the position will be filled later in the year, once the committee is aware of what teaching positions are available.

Looking at last year's list, only 9 of the boys aren't in weightlifting class, currently playing basketball or training for baseball season.

There are 5 guys on that list that are in weghtlifting class and there are 11 that are not liftingt that are not in other sports.

I was only speculating based on things which I had heard from others around the area, and my own personnal feelings I watched Coach Chism, during his time with Poynter and I saw him during his time with the middle school program he was very successful with both, he was also very responsible for the development of Coach Poynters powerhouse of players (ie:his winning records same kids that won Chism 2 NCKC middle school titles). So dont give me that level garbage the only difference in being a head Varsity Coach and a Head Middle school Coach is the time commitment and sometimes that is not even different. I only felt that with him already having a teaching position that it would be a good choice and the fact that if you ask any player former or current who their favorite Coach is you get his name from 7 or 8 out of 10 of them. That says something to me. I also have no knowledge of Coach Chism even applying or expressing intrest in the job. So lets give this a little rest and see what occures. If you wat to blame someone blame the AD, Principle, Board and Committee for not already reaching out and finding someone to take over for these boys 9, 11 or 2 its not right to put them on hold. Let them sit do nothing not get any stronger, faster, bigger etc. but the same people will complain when their team gets beat 50 - 0 by say a Henry Co or Frankfort. The level of commitment is far greater at those schools.:thumb:

First, let's address the bolded, giving credit where it is due. Poynter's system is what put TCHS football back on the map. Last year, he took a group that almost everyone (except a few close to the program and some of the parents) had written off and made them competitive in several games by taking his summer to find an offense that would allow for a team with a small o-line to utilize several scoring options.

 

He also worked painstakingly to try to get several of his past players on to the college level. It didn't work out for everyone, but Coach Poynter did his part. For some of them, they will tell you that he is the closest thing to a father that they have ever had. When David Bird was injured and in the hospital last year, Poynter was one of the few that made multiple (or any) trips down during the 16 day window in which he was there. Bird didn't have a lot of family and Coach helped pick up that slack.

 

Secondly, the 30 days required before a coach can be hired once the position has been posted is not yet up. I am curious as to what knowledge you have to be able to be able to put blame on the AD, principal for "not already reaching out and finding someone to take over for these boys." Do you KNOW that they have done nothing? Perhaps they have been in contact with the current assistant coaches that are paid for a full year of committment to the job. We have been back in school for 14 days since the announcement of Poynter's leaving. Let's not wail about that anyone is being slighted in the weightroom.

 

Thirdly, if Chism applies for the job (which to my knowledge he has not done yet), I am sure that he wants to be chosen as the best person for the job, not the only one available at the time.

 

With that being said, let's give the committee time to find the person best able to continue Trimble's resurgance amongst our area schools and beyond.

 

One last thing..."old" must be just a state of mind for you...or just a relative thing. We do have common ground, though. We both want what is best for these kids AND the whole program.
