KC 1973
JBS lead by 8 at the half, 20 at the end of 3, and went on to win by 14. Stepp 24pts. Childers 17pts. Howard 13 pts./6 rebs./4 assists, Collins 12 pts./9 rebs./7 blocks/3 assists, Hall 8 pts./12 rebs./4 assists. Good regional win for the Crusaders. First year Head Coach Josh Cook and JBS extends their record to 8-4. Good luck to the Bobcats the rest of the season.
AlwaysAScottie
What happened to all of the rumors at the end of the 2008 season about June Buchanan and Stepp kids leaving?
Ram
What happened to all of the rumors at the end of the 2008 season about June Buchanan and Stepp kids leaving? I was wondering the same thing.
Master of the Hardwood
The two boys, Hall and Collins, didn't get eligible at Knott and had to come back to JBS to play, so I'm sure they decided to go another year at JBS. Don't look for them to have athletics next year, but you never know.
mcpapa
I thought that one of the Stepps was a senior last year. I was very impressed with the younger Stepp the couple of times I saw JBS play last season.

KC 1973
With the " Big Four" as they are known in the 14th Region( Hazard, PCC, KCC, & LCC) receiving all the media attention, IMO there are some other teams that are having good seasons, Cordia has an above 500 record and played KCC on their home floor to within 6 pts. and was runners up in the Powell Co. tourn. JBS'S record is 8-4 with 4 losses to quality teams and was runners up in the Johnson Central tourn. beating Prestonsburg and defeating Johnson Central on their home court by 16 pts. Buckhorn is a good but young team. This is not including Lee & Wolfe Co. seasons. Sorry this is a little off topic but that might help answer some of the above post questions because these teams do not receive any Media attention. ARC
Breathitt returns 1 solid contributor from last season (Dakota Ritchie). Taulbee, Haddix, Terry, Allen and a few others return from last season but did not average more than a few points/rebounds/assists per game last season. Nick Noble returns but is immediately hampered by an injured ankle. Jeremy Congleton (who sat out last season after transferring from Owsley) may also be injured. Added to this mix is a new (but familiar) head coach (Doug Noble) and a few players who didn't play last season (namely football star Channing Fugate). This is predictably a team that would take some time to mesh; a lot of new things to adjust to. This Breathitt team will no doubt get better by seasons-end and are likely to pull off an upset or two along the way.
3 Point Play
Breathitt has several talented players, but I don't see them improving enough to beat any of the favorites in the region. I think they will be among the 6 or 7 middle of the pack teams. According to the radio JBS had a 60-38 lead at one time and missed 14 free throws for the game. I still believe they will get better and should win the district, but I don't see them advancing too far in the region, without a favorable draw. All In
The two boys, Hall and Collins, didn't get eligible at Knott and had to come back to JBS to play, so I'm sure they decided to go another year at JBS. Don't look for them to have athletics next year, but you never know. Why were they not able to get eligibility at Knott? Didn't JBS or someone else lose a transfer to Knott?
