Been out of the loop for a while now when it comes to basketball. How is the 41st shaping up this year?

Fan of the 11th is being modest, he has the right to be. Franklin County is definetley the class of the district. They have beat Frankfort, Woodford County, and Western Hills by 20 plus points this year. Not to mention they have a shot to win the region this year in my opinion, but as always the weak sister that FC is they will surely bow down to the normal 11th region powers, right Fan Of The 11th.

OK Mr Miller, no question FC is the favorite in the 41st, but one thing you and I both know about the 41st is that you never ever take a district opponent for granted. I have seen a lot of crazy things happen come district tourney time over the years. Favorites don't always win.

 

With regard to my repeated reference to FC being a "perennial middle of the road weak sister in the 11th". Yes there is a bit of sarcasm there, but on the other hand middle of the road in the 11th may not be that bad. Also it is a bit of a jab at the fact that most other programs in the 11th do not give FC any respect. I think in part this is by design as many outside of Frankfort/Franklin County run our programs down in order to make theirs look more attractive. I know this to be true because I have been on the receiving end of these type conversations.

 

The truth is that FC basketball (as well as football and baseball), are well funded programs with quality coaches at the helm. You have to give Scott Chalk credit as he committed to bringing respect to the FC program. He in my opinion teaches man to man defense better than any other coach in the 11th region (and doesn't really have the best athletes). Recent proof is how well FC competed in the STOP DWI Holiday classic in NY. They drew the number 1 seed in Jamesville-Dewitt 1st game (defending NY state champs, 3 D1 athletes, Syracuse signee Brandon Trishe). FC scored 36 points on JD in the 4th cutting the lead to 4 before running out of clock. Just my opinion, if Barrett Meyer not had to sat the majority of the second quarter due to having two fouls I doubt FC would have been down 17 at the half (because he has become a very good defender). Kids that want to play basketbal anywhere at the next level must learn to play man to man.

 

My point in all this is that if impact athletes choose to stay at home FC and other schools in the Frankfort area will be successful in the future. FC has one true middle school feeder, Elkhorn. Right now, there are some very good athletes in the 7th and 8th grades. Just ask some of the folks from across the county line, they are very aware who these kids are. If they stay home they will enjoy their share of success. Bottom line is that grass isn't necessarily greener across the county lines.

I agree way too close to call. I like Western Hills. I don't know why though. Just a feeling.

I agree with you on many points, especially that the man to man defense at County is excellent, but the 3 top scorers (Donovan, Meyer, and Hall) on the team did not attend Elkhorn. They all played for Lexington Catholic and Good Shepard. The freshman team also has two very good players that did not attend Elkhorn.

Franklin County would be my favorite right now. However, if they get complacent they can be upset.

The Meyer family has two generations that have grown up in east Frankfort attending the Catholic grade and middle school before attending public high school. I think Hall is a second generation east Frankfort boy as well.

Fan of the 11th I agree with everything you said. Believe me I listened to everyone outside of Frankfort tell me for 4 years while I was in high school that we couldnt compete outside of our district. All sports programs at FCHS are well represented every year and are always well coached. Personally I am a Gary Moore man myself because I played for him but I applaud Coach Chalk for the success the program has had the last couple of years and wish them continiued success. We all know that if you arent from Lexington or Scott County you will never get respect from anyone when the 11th region is being talked about. Regardless, I think people will see what FCHS has to offer by the end of the season, by far the best team since the David Evans and Roni Robinson days.

Franklin County is the team to beat in the 41st.
