What teams will be losing basketball players to Border Bowl?

To me it is an honor to be able to play in an all-star game of any sort. The young men should DEFINITELY play. Any hoops coach that holds it against an athlete for participating is not worth salt! The regular hoop season doesn't mean a thing...it's all about the tourney at seasons end!

Why should a athlete DEFINITLELY play an all-star game in the middle of another sports season? The basketball coach is trying to win as many games as he can, if the regular season means nothing why have it? This all-star game is great for football players, but IMO basketball players that have any impact on their basketball team should not risk injury and continue to play b'ball. How many football coaches would give up a wideout, running back, or defensive end for a basketball all-star game in the middle of the season? IMO not many.

I agree and disagree. Some things these young men must consider:

1.What is my role on the BB team?

2.Have I been made any college offers? The border bowl is a last chance look before the Feb. signing period

3. What kind of team do I play for (regional contender, state contender, or bottom of the heap)?

4. What BB games will I be missing (district game for seeding)?

5. Where will I be the most successful, football or basketball?

I really do not think a coach will hold it against a player to play in an all star game. Yes there are some exceptions!

I have heard a rumor that Winston Hines of Pulaski County will not be playing in the border bowl, so he can play basketball. Maybe someone closer to the situation can confirm that?

I hope to see Ryan Williams playing in the game but to do so he would miss playing Montgomery County in basketball.

Why would anyone have a football all star game in the middle of a basketball season. If boys havn't been seen by now by college coaches, then I'd say they're pretty much out of luck. More than likely, no boy would play much more than a half.

Actually, last year, a pretty good number of players received scholarship offers after this game. There are a lot of D2, D3, and NAIA coaches that attend this game for the sole purpose of seeing these players.

Steven Davis from Lynn Camp is participating in the border bowl. Hopefully, he can still play both. Brandon Abner from Lynn Camp was able to do both last year and played very well. He looked good in the border bowl and also had 25 pts against Barbourville the same weekend in a district seeded game.

I'll give you that there are a select few multi-sport stars for some schools. But it doesn't hurt to "play your bench" and let a kid have a lifetime memory playing in the all star game. And the regular season in hoops is just "seasoning" for the tourney at seasons end. There's no prize for winning a gabillion games and getting bounced in the first round of the districts.

Where were those coaches during the season. How can those kids be conditioned to play.

I would say they were coaching and traveling with their college teams. It is hard for a coach to travel and watch players during the season, that is why an assistant normally does that. Sometimes a head coach would like to see a player himself. I would say conditioning is not a problem, if a player is playing basketball, they should be in good shape, if not, they should be lifting and getting in shape for college. Plus, there are something like 6 practices before the Border Bowl.

I agree. There will be several coaches getting last looks at some players. Hopefully the weather will cooperate??? How prepared are we for snow!

The smaller colleges don't have the recruiting budgets that the big schools have for recruiting and don't get too far during the season from their region. These types of games are good for their recruiting.
