Hey Kentucky! Do any teams use the 3-3-5- defense?

Also depends on what road that bus is traveling on. If you see a good deal of 2 TE power run type game it is just not your best choice. Just like a split 6 is not your best choice against a 4-5 wide throw it every down type defense. Now if you have the right horses for it then it handles itself just fine on the HS level. The teams that cause problems with it I think have more to do with talent then the scheme.[/quote

Just because you change a formation does not mean that you have changed philosophies.....I agree totally, if you are remaining in your base, and teams start to attack the Integrity of what you wish to do, you are by 40....Meaning that you are subject to get beat by 40 points or more....Remember that it's not what you do, but how it's done that's most important....This is why you need a good Bus Driver......:thumb:

I don't care for it. I've seen a few of the bigger schools run it, but not many from the lower ranks.

We use a 3-3-5 defense, we call it "recon". We only use it against teams who run a spread no TE offense and it has proved to be very effective. The two wing guys line up outside the widest receivers as tight as they can get, they force them to the inside and then sit in the flats. Now, they can cover the flats and become end-run-force players if the play becomes a run play. It is definately not our base defense and we have been able to switch in and out of it effectively using our DE from our 5 front because we use flex type DE's. Being able to use our DE's makes the transition into this defense easy because you only adjust two positions who mainly have the same resposibility. It seems to be easy for the kids to grasp the concept and throws an effective wrinkle into our coverage defense!

Frankfort is Class A.....

I think Campbell, Holmes, and Simon run the 3-3-5. Does any one know if this is true or not?

Bardstown runs the 3-3-5 but is getting away from it. It is a very effective gap speed defense, but your tackles must be stout. We got mangled with it in the 2005 semifinal game down at Mayfield. Teams with very strong offensive line who run double tight will overpower a 3-3-5.

Holmes runs some type of 30 defense. I am not sure if it is the 33 or 35 though I think most of the differences are cosmetic. Like said before the defense does not like double TEs much nor certain trips sets.
