What a big win for Coach Lauster and the Raiders. Who said that games this early don't mean anything. Coach will use this win down the road as a big confidence booster come district tournament time.

No spin; Trimble was the better team tonight. Tale of two halves; Oldham was the better first half team, shooting 48% from the field, 3/7 from beyond the arc, and dictating tempo.

 

Then Brandon Mason got in foul trouble and that's when Oldham gets in trouble. The Colonels shot just 1 of 13 in the third period to go from 8 up at the half to six down after three.

 

The Colonels played a lot of new guys tonight - really had us scrambling on the broadcast as we saw subs we hadn't seen before. Not sure why the Colonels' top three reserves (at least, in games leading up to tonight) didn't play (at all), but Coach Forrest may simply be juggling his roster still in an attempt to find the right combinations.

 

For Trimble, a huge confidence booster (the Raiders hadn't beaten the Colonels since the early 90s); for Oldham, it was another learning experience as Gary Forrest tries to mold this squad into a credible team.

 

With neither team having a lot of size, the difference in experience was noticeable. This is a veteran Trimble squad, and they played with poise and intensity. They earned the win!

I would think that North is a heavy favorite to be the 1 seed.

North is the heavy favorite. With only one game needed to seed, assuming North beats all three (who knows...that's why we play the games!), then in order for TC to NOT be at least the 3 seed, OC would have to beat SO, who would have to beat TC. Then they would go to the tiebreakers...which honestly I don't remember what it is. I'm still mad about being in district Oldham Co as it is. There was no need to remember tie-breakers until this year.

Well, right now, that's the only seeding game to date, so Trimble is momentarily #1 and OC is #4...

 

North Oldham is the heavy favorite to be the #1 seed, and right now, I would say that Trimble and South are likely to be playing each other in round one of the district as the #2 and #3 seeds (or the #3 and #2 seeds...doesn't really matter;) )

 

First tiebreaker is head-to-head...second tiebreaker is Litkenhous ratings as of tournament time (or it was as of last year). Not a great 2nd tiebreaker system, but I guess it beats a coin flip... it's rarely used, though.

 

True Blue may not like being in the 29th - and generally speaking, I understand why...Trimble only has a little over 400 students, North has over 700, South has about 1200 and Oldham has about 1300. The advantage in numbers certainly gives the Oldham schools an advantage from the start. But - when you look at the 8th - there's no other logical place to put Trimble. Might change when - if - East Oldham HS is completed....although that will drag down both Oldham and South Oldham to probably under 1,000 students...

 

Of course, for those old enough to remember, Trimble was more than a match for Oldham County in the mid-70s...when Trimble wasn't much bigger and Oldham had over 2,000 students...

 

Oldham has some potential this year, but has a long way to go still.

I thought that the Lit ratings were the 2nd tie breaker, but hadn't confirmed that for this year.

 

Mike, you are only partly correct about my reasons for unhappiness in the 29th. It has little to do with numbers. In a four team district, we are the only one that is not part of the Oldham Co school system. Whether it is an official declaration or not, the OC schools ALWAYS vote together as a block. That leaves our vote in any matter an exercise in futility. Back in the old 31st it was the Oldhams, Gallatin, Carroll and Trimble. Even though there were more schools, we weren't voting against a school district. There were four school districts represented.

 

You talk about how things used to be back in the 70s, when the number differential was greater. Two things about that. #1 - Oldham Co was only one school with one vote. #2 - add the enrollments of all the Oldham schools and compare that against us and it is even more disproportionate now.

 

I would also differ where the word "logic" is used in the new districts. Eminence and Henry Co may be the two closest schools in the whole state and are natural rivals...yet didn't get put in the same district. That would seem highly illogical to me. That's just one example. However, I am sure that there would be no situation in which everyone would be happy.

 

It is what it is and we deal with it. We just don't have to be happy about it. On a side note, I have always enjoyed all of my interactions with Coach Forrest. He is a very classy coach and one that I respect greatly.
