Laptop sugession?

Featured Replies

I've been working on computers and laptops for about 8 years now and I would break down the laptops I work on as follows:

20% Dell/MAC

30% ACER/Toshiba/Sony

50% HP/Compaq

I'm not really trying to sway your decision either way, but if it were me, I'd buy a Dell. If you're comfortable using the MAC OS (which is very different from Windows), then you should decide between a MAC and a Dell. I personally would never want to go with a system that isn't compatible with Windows, but then again I'm a computer guy and everything I do must work with Windows, so each person might be different.

The Sony Vaio is a nice laptop, but will probably be more expensive than a Dell. The ones that seem to break the easiest are HP/Compaq.

I would just go look around dell.com and check out some of their deals. Don't get me wrong though, the VAIO is a pretty good laptop.

I switched from Macs when I decided to become a fulltime programmer. Otherwise, I would have never owned another PC after owning a few Macs. As for Windows laptops, Toshiba is tough to beat. Dell would probably be my second non-Mac choice. The Thinkpads were very well built at one time but I don't know if the quality is the same since Lenovo bought IBM's laptop business.

I know nothing about computers and such but does the VAIO have windows vista or is it like the MAC. I hate that style the MAC has on it

Enjoy your Toshiba.:D

I missed your post earlier but it proved to be prophetic. My next laptop will be a Toshiba. Actually I am not sure which family member will be getting the used Toshiba that I ordered from eBay. I also have a used IBM Thinkpad T42 ordered that will be here tomorrow.

My next new laptop will probably be a netbook. Specifically, an Asus EEE PC. I prefer working on a desktop and I would like to have a 2 to 3 lb. notebook for traveling.

Well, Wireman I bought the Dell studio and it has been a pain the whole week I've had it. Its more of Best Buy's fought though

Well you're not planning on spending the money for a Mac but I suggest one.
