So what? Boyd has made 1 regional in the past 8 years or so and they won't as long as Wooten keeps playing this way. Owens had 0 help. If you saw him jump over that John Deere Gator to dunk at the Gus Macker then you would be singing a different tune.

He could have jumped over a John Deere backhoe for that matter, that team went nowhere, but you have a point. He made them more palatable. I wish the new coach and his staff all the best. Tough situation.

They play no defense, period. Gertrude Ramey is rolling over in her grave.

So. I've seen no solutions from you, only criticism. Unless I missed it in all this banter. Let's hear it. Obviously Dave could use your help. You said get it to Messer. Is that your solution for this season? And then what?

It is hard to win when some of our best ball players won't even play.

Dont want to burst your bubble but those guys had nothing to do with establishing Boyd's tradition. They were good players that helped carry the torch of the tradition but try names like...Pratt, Toler, Wooten, Shumway, Mullins, Sisler, Wells, Taylor, Rakes, Stai, Goad, Spencer, Zornes just to name a few...

Wooten has inherited a mess from the bottom floor up not top floor down. It will take him 3 plus years to fix what has been going on in the grade school and middle schools.

Boyd Countains should support Wooten and give him some time. Until you have been in his shoes as a head coach you have no idea what he is going through.

Oh you are right and I blame this mess on the Boyd County staff and athletic dept.

Owens didn't even get his team to regionals ?

It was not Owens team.

He must have been one of those people who didn't want Dave Wooten in the first place! And about the Messer thing, its hard to throw the ball to someone who can't catch it half the time. But he did have a nice game Friday if he could have gotten back on deffense.

Well they could start by guarding someone. How about not playing a style that nobody outside of Elliott Co. has been able to have success with (see last years Greenup team for a recent example). Why take a lesser talented team and increase the number of possessions?

The Shriners Circus is held every year at Summit Junior High, I say one circus is enough.

I don't know Wooten and I'm sure he is a fine man but you can't possible tell me that you think this style of play will ever be successful at Boyd.

However, it is nice of you to take a shot at a kid who is doing his best. FWIW, it's difficult to get back on defense when your team does play defense. Maybe you should rephrase your statement to "he doesn't get back to watch the other team score."

Let's all keep Rule #2 in mind.

I totally agree with your statement. Funny how everyone relates Boyd County basketball to Frank Lee and Owens. I believe back in the day when I was in Boyd County there wasnt any Lee's or Owen's and Boyd dominated game after game.

I will have to say that I have heard some grumbling about Wooten's offense though. I was told he had twice the athletes that Russell had and got completely outcoached in the second half. Was that true?

It was not Owens team.

YOu are right it was not Owens team. Antonio was one of the most talented players to ever play in the 16th region. He often looked uncoachable. Very undisciplined player. Great individual talent but not a great teammate.

Also how is it the athletic departments fault? And who is their best player that is not playing?

And taken to another level by Lee (Marshall), Black (ultra quick playmaker), Fugate (6'8" beast), and Owens (won dunk contest at the Gus Macker).

I guess I have been gone for a while, dont even know who Black is??? When did he play for Boyd??

I did see Owens play a game or two...Incredible jumping ability.

Nothing strikes fear in your heart like a Junebug. Please tell me that is actually on his birth certificate.

Seriously would you guys wear short shorts and high socks?

Of course I only have 4 players but I still like my chances.

Make fun of the name all you want, but there was a "Junebug" on the KY All-Star team which consist of the top 12 players in the State, and none on your list made the KY All-Star Team. I do believe Owens made a all-star game at Transy Univ, but dont believe any of the other guys listed did. And before you ask, Junebug had twice as good of a College career as anyone on your list as well.
