I think both teams will be much improved come March. Holmes is lacking depth and a solid leader right now which will be developed throughout the year. SC is lacking solid defense and are committing a lot of turnovers which will also be developed thoughout the year.

 

Talent wise, both are very comparable with their starting 5's. It's just when you get in to their bench that you will see a difference between the two. If Holmes starts getting players in foul trouble, they could be in for a long game. The key for them is getting out early and being the more aggressive team.

I agree with that to an extent. Neither Pittman nor Arnold are as aggressive or strong as Clark was last year, but both are much more athletic and have height to their advantage which Clark didn't. (Clark was 6'4, Pittman and Arnold are 6'7 and 6'6) I'd also say both are probably better at finishing and have more range than Clark did.

 

Nelson was a VERY GOOD rebounder down low at 6'4, but JJ has kind of taken over that role this year and is much better offensively. Nelson will be missed defensively down low. He was very physical and played a tough "in your face" type of defense. JJ lacks that right now.

I thought Euton was more of an outside player for SC though? I'd say Pittman and Phares are about even down low. Pittman is much more athletic.

Phares is a beast on the boards and is a low post player. Pittman may play inside on defense, but is not an inside oriented offensive player.

Euton loves to float on the perimeter on offense but he is a very wide body and does fairly well on the glass. I just don't think Holmes has the physicality inside to handle or keep SC from the glass.

I agree but the same was said last year when Holmes played Lexcath. If Phares has to guard Pittman out top on defense, I can see him getting in foul trouble since Pittman is so quick and athletic with the ball. Same can be said about Phares with the ball down low on offense though against Pittman, who has been prone to foul trouble. Each presents stengths that are the other player's weakness. Same with Euton/R. Johnson. R. Johnson is MUCH quicker than Euton and will be a tough match up for him defensively but offensively could do some damage down low.

I admire your enthusiasm for your team, but unless "the big 3 of Holmes" are leaving change on top of the backboard, there's no way they are going to out leap SC all night. SC has ten players on their varsity roster that can dunk the ball. If Holmes has three kids that can out leap Phares, Jackson and Guyn and can box out Euton we're in for a big show Sunday. :thumb:

:confused: I can see your argument earlier (don't necessarily agree with it) about Phares and Pittman being an even matchup based on Pittman playing so well on the perimeter, but I don't see how you say Pittman and Phares are an even matchup inside. That being said the 2 will square off soon enough.

6'2 Brandon Housely has had a dunk off a rebound bouncing on the rim in all three of their games this year. I'd say it's safe to say they have a few players that can get up there with your SC boys. :thumb:

I said SC has 10 players that can dunk, they could have more, but unless this is a slam dunk contest and not a basketball game, I don't see how that will affect the outcome. Athleticism is a wonderful tool to have in your bag, but athleticism, while it may be great for the highlight reel, does not win ballgames on its own. I've seen this time and time again over the years, where taller more athletic teams are thumped by smaller, less gifted players with heart, who play smart as a team.

 

I'll say this much, if fan enthusiasm and hype had any bearing whatsoever on the outcome, Holmes is already ahead by double figures. You alone have 28 of the 87 posts on this thread. No one else is even in double figures. You are the leading scorer dude... :lol:

 

For the record, I genuinely admire your enthusiasm. I have no problem with people supporting their teams. Every school should have fans as passionate as you. My only complaint comes when people feel the need to criticize kids not at their school while trying to make their kids or school sound better. Otherwise, woof and toot away. :thumb:

 

I do have something to look forward to besides church this Sunday. I can only hope that every coach and player on both teams shows up focused, in good health and ready to play.

Also I wouldn't call it criticizing kids when I'm just giving my opinion of the match ups and players from each team. Everything isn't always going to be positive. Would it be considered criticizing and being negative if a college coach were to give the same evaluation? :confused: If you re read my posts, you'll see I point out negatives that the Holmes players need to work on as well. Just because someone states their OPINION doesn't mean they're wrong or are criticizing. I have all the respect in the world for all of the players from BOTH teams. I do feel some are underestimating the Holmes kids though considering they haven't seen them this year, just as I may be underestimating a few of the SC players...but atleast I've seen them to give an educated evaluation.

 

I do have something to look forward to besides church this Sunday. I can only hope that every coach and player on both teams shows up focused, in good health and ready to play.
