I personally feel being able to dunk has nothing to do with being able to rebound. It's all about position and being able to box out. I was just responding to your comment of SC having 10 kids who could dunk and enlightening you that Holmes has just as much athleticism and kids who can get up there with Phares, Guyn, and Jackson. You brought it up my man, not me.

Also I wouldn't call it criticizing kids when I'm just giving my opinion of the match ups and players from each team. Everything isn't always going to be positive. Would it be considered criticizing and being negative if a college coach were to give the same evaluation? :confused: If you re read my posts, you'll see I point out negatives that the Holmes players need to work on as well. Just because someone states their OPINION doesn't mean they're wrong or are criticizing. I have all the respect in the world for all of the players from BOTH teams.

I wasn't limiting the scope of my comments to this thread alone. If someone wanted to go back and read all your comments about Euton, Jackson, Flannery and others since this summer, I have no doubt they would come to the same conclusion I have about the negative comments.

At that time I also hadn't seen any of the kids outside of Flannery. After seeing them multiple times this year, I feel I can give an educated evaluation when I give an opinion of them. Doesn't necessarily mean it's right or wrong but if it's just an OPINION, it shouldn't really matter.

Have a safe trip up here to NKY this Sunday and like I said earlier, I recommend showing up early and catching some of the Covcath/Highlands game. Huge rivalry and the Covcath student section is definetly something to witness first hand.

It's not so much that Henderson couldn't be replaced, it's just that they don't have the same depth that they had last year. That's what they're lacking this year. Last year all 7 seniors saw extended varsity time as juniors which allowed them to go 10 or 11 deep with no real drop off. This year's senior class, outside of Riley and Housely (at Newport) didn't really see that much time last year because of how deep the senior class was.

 

Housely is the key addition that Holmes needed to be successful this year. You'll probably never see him lead the team in scoring but his defense and rebounding from the guard position are a huge asset for Holmes.

 

As far as not having a difference maker at crunch time, I'd say they have two VERY good ones in R. Johnson and Riley. Either can take over a game.

 

I agree. Clark, Nelson, and Avery all had three to four year of playing on the varsity level. Holmes was 9 to 10 deep last year, that feed there defense. They could go full court man to man the whole game and still be fresh at the end. There wans't much of a drop off from the frist to second unit. This year the starting five is better than last years, but the bench has a big drop off. The starting 5 five for Holmes {IMO} can play with anybody in the state, and if Riley shoots 10 to 12 times they can beat anybody in the state. SC has an advantage going into the game and most people pick them to win. But I think Riley will bring it and show that he is a top 10 pg in the state.

If holmes first 5 can stay on the court they will keep it close and have a chance. If they have to go to the bench they are in trouble.

I think depth is going to be the factor is this game as it is early season. I believe Scott County is generally successful in getting teams in foul trouble. If it gets to a war of attrition, and I believe it will, Scott County has the advantage. Scott County has a height advantage, and late in a game a 48" vertical isn't usually 48" (as David Thompson used to say), but 6'8" is still 6'8".

I think the teams are pretty equal inside but give the edge to Scott County because of their outside shooting. Holmes has an edge in quickness but SC isn't slow by any means and will win if they play under control. Phares can beat you with his outside shot also but fortunately for SC, he tends to do the dirty work inside. Holmes does need to get Euton and Phares in foul trouble to win. Agree that Holmes doesn't have the type of team makeup that is needed to beat a Scott County. You need power and quickness to beat SC.

I agree 100%, which is why I stated Holmes needs to be the aggressor early on and try to get both Euton and Phares in foul trouble. Without those two in the lineup, Holmes has a considerable height advantage with Pittman, Arnold, and both Johnson Brothers.

I'd have to disagree. If anything Holmes has the advantage outside with Pittman, Johnson, and Riley. I'd give the advantage to SC down low with Euton and Phares.

 

I agree Holmes isn't exactly a power team but they are a very quick team.

Im going to take Scott County in this one unless Pittman and Johnson step up and play big for Holmes! They will have to out shine the four studs from Scott County!
