Good to see Illinois is bi-partisan when electing corrupt governors.

My personal belief is that Blago approached Obama with hints that he would give Obama his choice to fill the Senate seat in return for a lucrative spot in the Obama's administration. I think Obama gave him a "we'd be eternally grateful if you filled the Senate seat with a good Obama Democrat." Not exactly what Blago was looking for. I'm also not saying that if this happened that Obama did anything improper.

During his first term, Blago somehow managed to alienate both parties, including his own Democrats. He won re-election despite not getting support from top Dems. The campaign war-chest that he accumulated with pay-to-play and used to buy advertising was too much for any competitors.

 

There will be no sympathy nor pardons. He will be left twisting in the wind.

He is a sociopath and it is unlikely that he will resign. He knew that he was being investigated. He knew that a lot of pay-for-play info came out in the Rezko trial and he even knew recently that the Feds were wire-tapping him.

 

Yet, he still conducted corrupt business as usual. He will ride the crashing plane all the way to the ground. He gets 60 days to respond to any Impeachment Complaint.

 

The IL legislature is considering passing a state law that takes the power of appointment away from the Govenor for the Senate Seat. He can sit on it for 60 days, though, before vetoing it. They will have unanimous vote to override the veto but it will come well after Obama's inauguration.

 

If he can be persuaded to resign, the Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn is all for a special election to fill the seat and will sign any bill passed by the state legislature in that regards. That is the only way to scrub the tarnish off this deal. Bobby Rush, US Representative, says that blacks won't have enough money to win a special election and that a black person should be appointed to fill the seat.

So, do you think Tony Rezko is the only mutual friend/money man that Blogo and O shared? I guess it is a coincidence that Rahm Emanuel succeeded Blogo in the House when Blogo was elected governor too.

I believe that even some of the wiretaps themselves are evidence of the negative relationship that Obama had with Blago. Just because Rezko donated funds doesn't mean, and it surely has not been proven, that he received favors in return. I am from Missouri and know the history behind President Truman and longtime mob man Tom Pendergrast. Truman got the label but spent his career in opposition to the corruption Pendergrast represented. Rep Bobby Rush must be an interesting guy. He wants a person appointed because of their race and he is co-sponsoring a bill about a playoff system in college football....a renaissance man!!!:thumb:

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois House voted overwhelmingly Friday to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich, an unprecedented action that sets up a Senate trial on whether he should be thrown out for abuse of power, including allegations that he tried to sell President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat.

 

Impeachment required just 60 votes. The final result was 114-1.
