December 19, 200817 yr I agree with you that Florida is better than USC this year...and I'm a USC fan. But, USC is second to nobody when it comes to team speed. Wide, you are dead on about the speed. :thumb:

Wide, you are dead on about the speed. :thumb: :thumb::thumb: I think that it's USC's speed that would allow them to compete with FL. Acutally, I'm not so sure that Florida is better. IMO, the best match-up would be a FL/USC game. I'm not sold on the B12, but I guess it would be easy for others to say they are not sold on the P10.
December 19, 200817 yr Everyone has an opinion and a favorite team. USC is always loaded with good players and have an excellent coach. Florida also is usually loaded and they have an excellent coach. Like hearing everyones opinion. A lot of good opinions on this subject. Still think that Floida has better team speed this year. I think Florida will put a whipping on Oklahoma would rather see them playing USC as I think they are second best team. Like I say just my opinion bowl games will answer some of the questions. Still hoping for an eight or sixteen team playoff on day.

However, those teams aren't a clear cut above...an 8-team playoff feature USC, Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Florida and one more would be sweet.

Penn State over Ohio State obviously. Fair, probably PSU over OSU, or keep them both. But the rest is very solid. The team that's excluded is Utah (but IMO, they would not really be in the top 8 - Would they????)
December 20, 200817 yr This would be the best match-up, IMO. Speed is not something that would intimidate USC. This is one of the fastest D's in the country. Their D is solid, with strength and depth at all positions. The D is their strength (ask Notre Dame). As a USC fan, what I don't like about this years team is their Offensive strategy. The team has the weapons at every position. But what I do not like about this years team is their willingness to bury teams. USC completely dominated their schedule with the exception of the Oregon State game. The beat UCLA convicingly at every phase of the game, but you could see that the offense was bored. Hard to imagine playing your rival, that you are bored. They could have easily have put 70 on the board, but you did not see that killer instinct. I believe that a challenge like Florida would bring that out of them. I'll take Carroll in a championship game. Give him a month to prepare and he will beat you. Remember when they said that about sweater vest too?

Is it fair for the two teams to play for the national championship when they couldn't even play for their conference championship while you have other teams that are undefeated? Sounds not much different than the system that we have. Based on the system chosen by the conferences, at least we have the teams playing for the national title WON their conference championship.

December 20, 200817 yr Penn State over Ohio State obviously. :thumb: I knew I was forgetting somebody. Penn State would perfectly round out an 8-team playoff. No disrespect meant to the Nittany Lions. I just didn't think of them for some reason.

I don't know...is it fair that non-conference champs get to play for the hoops crown? Absolutely it's fair. You pick the 8 best teams...just because a team didn't win their conference doesn't mean they aren't in the top 8. Are you telling me you'd take Utah, Cincinnati, Boise State or Virginia Tech over Texas, Texas Tech or Alabama? We need to get over this notion that not winning your conference somehow excludes you from competing for the title. Not doing so will be the perfect way to destroy a potential playoff by not giving us the best matchups with the best teams...

If you are talking about a playoff system it should include at least the 8 best teams regardless of conference. If you want to reward the conference champions then expand it to 16 teams and let them in. I don't have a problem with the argument that you should have to win your conference to play for the national championship under the current system but a playoff system shouldn't limit the numbers of teams from one conference.
December 21, 200817 yr Agree with 5 Wide. The 8 best teams no matter what conference they are in should compete for the championship in a playoff system. Best teams make for the best games.
