With all due respect to Mr. Fugate (and I'm not being sarcastic-it seems a healthy dose of respect is due), I hope that the Breathitt team doesn't buy the "ride the back of Fugate to a championship" philosophy.

 

If anyone is basing their opinion of Central on that weird breakdown of a game from 2007 at Johnson Central, they've grossly underestimated this Central team as well as Coach Scroggins.

 

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I do have a great admiration and respect for the Central program. They play (almost inarguably) the toughest schedule in the state, in any class. They have benefitted from that, and I don't think Coach Scroggins allows his team to assume any opponent is not worthy of them. They will be prepared. They will not be an easy win for Breathitt Co. Breathitt may win, but it won't be easy. I, personaly, feel Central will win. But, I also haven't seen Breathitt play, so I may be off base.

Central would be more uncomfortable with the "old" Breathitt teams that threw it all over the lot. If Central has a glaring weakness, it is the pass defense.

 

Central's run defense is just smothering. Can't run over them - they are too physical, can't run by them - too fast. To think Fugate will come in and shread Central's defense is foolish. But if Breathitt does a good job mixing the run/pass/play action they can be successful against that defense.

 

Union had a decent 1st half vs. Central last night, then just got throttled in the 2nd.

 

Central does occasionally have periods where they make mistakes, but also can score from anywhere/anytime on the field.

 

Central's 3 losses were to Manual, St. X and Highlands (they also lost to Western, but later was awarded a forfeited win), pretty tough company.

 

Breathitt didn't get to this point on luck, but IMO Central is just too athletic and explosive and will win 33-21.

 

I do think this game and the 2-A game will be the best match-ups of the weekend.

 

I agree with everything you said except that Central can't be run on. Elizabethtown ran very effectively against Central two weeks ago until their starting FB got hurt. Etown's running game hasn't been compared to Belfry's, Breathitt's, etc., all season, but with him in, they had about 80+ rushing yards early in the 2nd period. When he left, their backup couldn't get it done...

 

Etown did pass extraordinarily well, but without the running game, the QB was running for his life.

 

I think Central will win, because they are a threat to score on every play (their three first half scoring plays vs. Etown two weeks ago were from 30+, 40+, and 60+ yards) and if Breathitt has even the briefest letdown, the Jackets will burn them.

 

But I think the recipe for success against Central is a solid power running game that plays keep-a-way and doesn't give up the ball. That said, you have to show you can throw or you won't be able to run...Elizabethtown ran well, I think, in part because Central was so jacked up to stop the prolific Etown passing game. You can't just go in there and expect to run, run, run, run, run on every down. Too much strength and speed.

Well, if they do, they'll know going into next season that it doesn't work...

 

I do have a dog in this fight, and I'm well aware that Breathitt County goes into this game as a significant underdog. Its going to take a heck of a performance by the Bobcats combined with something less than Central's best to come out of Louisville with our fourth trophy.

 

All I hope is that Breathitt County leaves it on the field and doesn't beat themselves. I don't want to see Breathitt make it easy on Central with mistakes and turnovers...I at least want them to have to earn it. I can live with Central simply being the better team much easier than I can live with giving the game away and not even giving yourself a chance. As we saw last week at Belfry, if you give yourself a chance and put yourself in position to win, anything can happen.

I am going to be honest with you I kind-of feel sorry for Lou.Central,because it will be scary what Fugate will unleash on Central this friday,because he will not hold anything back in this champion ship game. :thumb::flame:
