November 29, 200817 yr I say LBJ. Look at his team, then look at Kobe's. Look at what LeBron did with basically hardly any help and took them to the NBA Finals. The year Kobe was without Shaq, Gasol, look what he did, nothing. This years stats.. James - 27.6 ppg - 7.2 rpg - 6.4 apg Kobe - 24.5 ppg - 5.1 rpg - 4.0 apg Career James - 27.4 ppg - 6.9 rpg - 6.6 apg Kobe - 25.0 ppg - 5.3 rpg - 4.6 apg I'll continue to go with LeBron..
November 29, 200817 yr Tough call, but I do agree that Labron has had less of a supporting cast. IMO, Labron is getting better, Kobe has peaked, thus I give the Edge to Labron.
November 29, 200817 yr LBJ is the greatest driver of the basketball in the history of the game. He is so much bigger than everyone else, he is virtually unguardable. Kobe too is a great driver to the hoop, but not to the extent of LBJ. What separates the two is Kobe's permiter game. James is horrendous shooting the ball beyond dunking or laying the ball in the hoop... plus, Kobe has consistently been 10x the defender. Obviously if we are talking for the next 10 years, you take LBJ because he is in his early 20s.
November 29, 200817 yr I am also not buying the "supporting cast" argument for LBJ. Being in the East, his supporting cast is more than fine. I like his supporting cast. LBJ is able, at will, to drive the ball to the hoop and kick out to his assasins. Mo Williams is almost an All-Star, IMO, and he takes the pressure off LBJ handling the point.

IMO, Labron will develop the outside J, and when he want's to , he can play D. When he puts those two parts of his game together, he may well be in the same class as MJ

But only playing defense when he wants and not being a good perimeter/clutch shooter, I cannot elivate him to the highest status. I am not sure MJ or Kobe have ever struggled outside the paint the way Lebron does. People really do not understand how poor he shoots sometimes because the only thing we see are dunks and his % is relatively high. And for the record, Lebron is at his best when he drives to the hoop and should continue to do so.
November 29, 200817 yr Author LBJ is the greatest driver of the basketball in the history of the game. He is so much bigger than everyone else, he is virtually unguardable. Kobe too is a great driver to the hoop, but not to the extent of LBJ. What separates the two is Kobe's permiter game. Obviously if we are talking for the next 10 years, you take LBJ because he is in his early 20s. James has improved his shooting a lot since coming into the league. LeBron is shooting better from the field than Kobe. Bryant shoots better from 3, at 30 percent, but LeBron is right behind him at 27. Also LBJ puts up more defensive rebounds, and steals than Kobe. So I wouldn't really say Kobe is a 10x better defender. I am also not buying the "supporting cast" argument for LBJ. Being in the East, his supporting cast is more than fine. I like his supporting cast. LBJ is able, at will, to drive the ball to the hoop and kick out to his assasins. Mo Williams is almost an All-Star, IMO, and he takes the pressure off LBJ handling the point. When his team went to the finals who was the best player on that team he had to go to? Hughes? Big Z? D Gibson? Put LeBron with this Lakers team, they are better with him than with Kobe. Mo Williams averages around 15 points and 4 assists a game, far from being an all star. And Who are LBJ's "assasins"?
November 29, 200817 yr Again, Lebron shoots a high percentage from the field, but take a look at his shot chart. It is all dunks and lay-ups... which is perfectly fine. His best role is driving and kicking out to his shooters. Delonte West and Williams are good shooters. Gibson has struggled thus far, but we know what he can do. Outside the paint James struggles; it is not a secret. This season Lebron is playing more to his strengths and at an MVP type level by cutting down on his 3 point attempts and all permiter looks. In the East, how many PGs are you going to take over Williams? He is a heck of a player and up with the best in the East. And for the East, his supporting cast, I contend is more than fine.
November 29, 200817 yr In the forst 3 quarters, LeBron hands down. The fourth quarter is owned by Kobe though.
November 29, 200817 yr If your starting a team now its Lebron obviously. How has Lebron done more with less? Don't compair there #'s this year.... Kobe is only playing like 30 minutes a game.
November 29, 200817 yr Bugatti basically nailed it all in his post. It's hard to compare their numbers, they are completely different players.
November 29, 200817 yr At todays level? Lebron.. Bosh, Wade, Paul, Howard. All before I take Kobe. Love the Mamba he's just gettin up there.
