Wireless Router Issues

Featured Replies

Hey geeks...

Our old router went out and I purchased a new one. I think I've hooked it up properly but when installing the software it says that it can not find the router.

I have computer to router, router to modem, modem to cable.

Any ideas?

When I get home, I'll post the exact error it's giving me.

What kind of router?

Belkin G+ MIMO

I haven't dealt a whole lot with Belkin MIMO, but you should verify that the modem is connected to the router's Uplink or WAN port and that the computer is connected to one of the LAN ports. If it has multiple ports, switch to another port just to check. If that doesn't work, try another CAT5e network cable if you have one, just to rule that out. Can you also verify that you have "link" lights on your network card (green and flashing orange)?

I was provided a new cable and that's the first thing I switched. All lights were properly working, according to the "quick" installation guide. All lights on my modem were working as well and I can get on the internet on my PC, just not the wireless.

I didn't try to switch LAN ports, I'll try that later.

There is one yellow port and five grey ports. I'm guessing the yellow port is the Uplink port. I even switched those and received an orange flashing light on one of the router lights.

Aren't you an IT guy by trade?

Sounds like the computer to access the wireless may be looking for the old SSID. Try having the computer search for wireless networks within range. Also, I am assuming the wireless connection is for a laptop. Many laptop have a mechanism to turn the wireless on/off. Check to make certain that yours is turned on. If that does not work for you, PM me with your contact information and I will try to help you over the phone.

Who's your cable with? Do you by any chance know if your Internet company uses a DHCP server? That's how we do it where here (I work for the local utility in Glasgow), and we tell customers not to run software. Our server locates the MAC address off the router and then connects them.

I'll try that. I actually tried that on the laptop but didn't think of it on my pc.

Thanks!

Oh, and tell Cleetus, LeeRoy, and Buford I said hello...

If all else fails, light the Belkin on fire. I've never had good luck with them.

I didn't have to do that with the last one...

I've had a belkin for about 3 years and love it. I hate Linksys.
