November 24, 200817 yr I think that Max Starks backup tackle (now a starter due to injury) is the only player in NFL history to get the transition tag (I'm obviously only kidding, yet I doubt that there have been many). It may have been the stupidest as well. :lol: I'm not even sure what it is. In fact, I probably wouldn't be aware of it if I hadn't read about the Seahawks situation. Apparently they gambled and "transitioned" Hutchinson instead of franchising him and the Vikings signed him.

November 24, 200817 yr Never mind, there is no compensation for losing a guy who has been transition tagged. The deal with Hutchinson and the Seahawks and Vikings was this... The Vikes signed Hutch to a 7-year, $49 million contract with $16 million guaranteed. As with transition rules, the 'Hawks had 7 days to match the offer. However, those crafty Viking included a clause in the contract that stated "the entire $49 million would be guaranteed if Hutchinson was not the highest paid lineman on the team he signed with." Enter Walter Jones...since he was the 'Hawks LT, Hutchinson wouldn't have been the highest paid lineman in Seattle, thus they'd have had to guarantee the entire contract. Very clever.

Transition tag, I'm currently a mediocre player, not close to reaching the potential I was drafted for, yet my club is stupid enough to to pay me an astronomical amount to keep me, and unless something drastic happens, I get to sit, stay out of the training room, and bank some serious Benjamins. ^that's the spindoc hates the transition tag definition.:irked:

November 26, 200817 yr But no guarantee he'll even play next year. Im not much of a fan of his, but he apparently loves to play football. And yes I do think he will play again next year and beyond. I sure hope he does. I dont think anyone could stand another summer long Favre soap opera
