St. Xavier 72 Nelson County 7

One of my relative's college coach used to say after a blowout, "Don't blame them. Get better."

GReat Quote and even better philosophy.

Nice old school analogy! :ylsuper:

Or course I misspelled "Warrior"

It was a well known fact throughout the statdium that ST. X scored their first 35 points midway through the first quarter before Nelson County actually tackled a ST. X player.

Scores came on a fumble return by the defense, a punt return and three long offensive scores on the first play of drives. Never tackled once! Don't think I will ever witness that again.

Maybe the KHSAA should ask Bridget DeVries to attend some of these 1st round mismatches to get a real feel of the disparity that a six class system is creating.

Best idea I have heard in a long time.

What is St.X supposed to do, take a knee on every down once they are up by 40?

Yes.

Yes.

That is totally showing disrespect for your opposition if you took a knee on every down. I would rather lose by 100 than have someone do that to me. :irked:

You're kidding right? There were quite a few other lopsided scores during round one.

So - what is your point ?

One of the (main) realities of this playoff system alignment. What if an 0-10 team drew X - what happens then ?

"It's so great that so many more kids have the opportunity to participate and experience the playoff season."

Amen! :thumb:

I am an outsider looking in on this one, but is it necessary to score 72 on someone?

Is it necessary to let someone hang 72 on you?

Malachi...If Nelson could have made a tackle in the first six minutes of the game maybe X would not have reached 60. It takes two to create such a lopsided outcome.

My point is that the current system will have these sorts of matchups (last year 0-10 Butler did play X), and therefore the possibility of very lopsided scores. No one benefits from scores like that, but I don't believe that X, T, Central etc. were trying to run it up, based on the early subbing that I saw occur.

There is NOTHING that Nelson County can do or 98% of the other public schools to match what x & t can do. It is a waste of time to debate, getting better...yah yah yah... Again, this has nothing to do with a 6 class system. There were games like this when there was only 4 classes.

This is pretty much what I would have expected and will expect from x until the meet t in the semis.

Another reason to do away with this first round of playoffs.
