The schedules will spread to cover the weekend shifts, e.g being off on days in the week in order to cover the weekend hours. Again, I cannot confirm what he told me.

That is correct doc. I work for a contractor for ak. And I will be one of the few left in the mill as of right now. There will only be around 100 people in the mill on a weekday afternoon. Incluiding myself a a couple other contractors and salary employees. And there will be about half that number in here on nights and weekends. So far I have heard anyone over 3 years gets something like 60% pay and keeps all insurance. And anyone over 10 years makes 80% and keeps insurance. And the guys under 3 years just get unemployment. But i cannot garantee or confirm that information.

Also two good friends of mine were involved in a layoff at ESM yesterday. That's the big blue building in front of the credit union. It's a machine shop mainly just for repairing ak equipment.

It's going to effect alot of people this holiday season. Hate to see something like this happen.

That seems to be the story. I'm at the coke plant and the OT has been cut. But anything can change and the future is uncertain.

I have a friend who was waiting on arbitration to get his job back at the coke plant. It doesn't look so good for him now, does it?

My dad has worked there for around 40 years... I am not sure why he hasn't retired, he talked about it for 10 years.
