Play injured?

Featured Replies

Just wonderin with the playoff comin and some teams may be banged up, would you or should you play injured?

Yep.

For a big percentage of the boys(seniors) this is it, they have spent the last 4 years dedicating their life to this game, with the exception of a few weeks a year, they spend preparing or playing. For them to sit out do to an injury in the playoffs has to be devistating for them in their SR year, they cant let go of it! It is case by case, but I say if they can handle it, go for, get your last thrills.

I'll certainly defer to any medical professional who's on the boards, but my understanding is that you really aren't likely to hurt yourself further by playing with injuries to these particular ligaments.

The question - as I understand it - is whether you'll be ABLE to play well enough with those injuries.

He says he is fine, the Doc says wait it out longer... but he is able to play when he feels able to.

Yes, if under Physicians care and released. If not, then family and Coach make the final decision.

O yes. This is playoff time and nothing else but the games matter. You look past the first game cause it could be the last. You do what ever you have to do to get as healthy as possible before the game. But when it comes down to it you just have to suck it up and play on.

I know kids who in the past have not disclosed injuries to their hands, arms, or shoulders, for fear of losing their starting spot at a few schools in Jefferson County. Seniors especially need to play if possible and as long as playing with thier injury does not add to chance of suffering a crippling hit. It is most likely their last time to play competitive football.

I still feel guilty for allowing my son to play injured for the majority of his last season. My sister put it in perspective for me. She said, "You could no more keep him from playing than you could force him to play a sport he hated." True, true. It was his life and love from age 6! He had 12 wonderful years of memories, and went out as State Champ. How could I have kept that from him?
