So you ignored my article because it didn't support your views? What it boils down to is that there is evidence supporting both sides. I'm inclined to believe the folks that say climate chance is real. I mean, I guess I could use the same argument Christians use sometimes. What if I'm wrong? I'll just make the earth a cleaner, greener place. What if you're wrong? We're risking the planet.

Is Al Gore right? With ski resorts opening early and with most of the USA experienceing below normal average temperatures this year, are we in imminent danger of being toasted by global warming?

 

It's starting to feel that way. Every summer seems to be getting hotter. I haven't read a thing on this, but even my untrained eye can tell something is different.

I saw something on one of the information channels (History, Learning, Discovery, etc.) once that showed a scenario where the process that they hold responsible for global warming could actually bring about a significant global cooling initially before swaying back the other way...

 

Obviously, that whole process doesn't happen in a decade. I can't remember any of the details anyway, but I'm pretty sure I saw it.

 

So, I think they've already got an answer for the recent "cooling" trend.

You act as if people who don't believe Al Gore are against conserving energy. I hardly drive anymore, try to ride my bike, always carpool. We haven't turned out heat on (unless the house gets below 55 degrees). I take short showers to save gas.

 

I think conserving energy is good for the environment and good for my wallet. I have no problem with willing, private individuals to pay a little bit extra to "go green". However, many of the things that Al Gore proposes would result in absurd restrictions on the economy (Kyoto Protocol, fines for carbon emissions, etc.). When harmful restrictions are put on the economy, it hurts the poor more than anyone.

 

Personally, I think it is responsible to practice individual energy conservation, but I think it highly irresponsible to damage the well-being of the world's poor for an idea that hasn't been proven and can be affected with no negative aftereffects through our own individual efforts.

Besides energy conservations, internal combustine engines do produce pollutants that should concern everybody. However, the case for considering relatively small amounts of carbon dioxide as a pollutant are very weak, IMO. Like you, I have reduced my driving but mostly for economic reasons and I use my most fuel efficient car (35 mpg highway) for most of my driving.

Certainly not this year. Honestly, this is nothing new, the climate has been like this before. It's been worse than this before.

I agree but that is not what was done here. I posted the map in response to a poster's claim that it has been getting hotter in this country every year. The map shows that is not true. The media has jumped on the global warming bandwagon and gives much less coverage to stories such as below average annual temperatures over most of the USA. If you are constantly reading and hearing global warming, then people will generally begin to agree it is getting warmer where they live - even if the opposite is true.

September was unusually cool and so far, October has been unseasonably cold in most of the country as well. Ski resorts would not be opening early without the benefit of below average temperatures.

The idea behind global warning is that it will cause extreme changes in the climate. Not that we all live in 70 degree weather. The summer will be hotter and the winters cooler. Huricanes will last longer in the season or we will have none at all.

 

It's not meant to mean that we are all going to get a great tan in 10 years...
